Umpire Rock and the other exposed bedrock areas throughout the park. They make me feel like I'm connected to something bigger than myself- knowing that all the big buildings of the city which now seem so ineffable and permanent were once just bare ground, and that those rocks were there then, too. It helps me relax when I've got deadlines- I think about those rocks, and how they've been around for millennia and will be around for millennia more, and all my problems seem insignificant in the face of that. It calms me down.
I'm a newcomer to NYC- I moved in August from Portland, Oregon to go to school here. I'm currently a freshman at Eugene Lang college at The New School, and I'm interested in literature, film, graphic design and media studies.
