Then don't miss this 1-day FREE workshop on Tuesday 22nd October, where you'll learn how to create more modern, effective structures and get the best out of your UI - creating a better experience for your users and making your apps more successful!
Mark, who is also speaking at Droidcon London this year, will demonstrate how to leverage Google's design structures and make sure your app can be delivered to the widest range of possible devices and audiences.
Morning: Up to Speed, And Faster Still
Spin up on the action bar, from entry-level “OK, how does this thing work again?” to advanced techniques like action modes and dynamic contents
Get comfortable with the ViewPager, Android's leading horizontal-swiping solution, from basic integration through powerful extensions like adding and removing pages on the fly
Learn how to throw your content onto wired and wireless displays (such as monitors, televisions, and projectors), while still allowing the user to control their experience through their phone or tablet
Afternoon: The UI Envelope Won't Know What Hit It
Explore the navigation drawer pattern, a community-led, Google-endorsed UI pattern for allowing rapid access to many parts of your app
Integrate rich text formatting, for display purposes, and even for data entry, to get you past boring plain text fields
Grok what Google really means by “the master/detail pattern”, and how you can use it, blended with the rest of the day's topics, to create a compelling UI that adapts to varying screen sizes
PREREQUISITES To get the most out of this workshop, you need to be comfortable with basic Android application development, including having a least a bit of experience with fragments.
This day-long seminar will be mostly lectures, demonstrations, and discussion. However, you will be given a copy of all the source code used in the course's demonstrations, and you are welcome to follow along with that code if you so choose. That code and the – 2,400+ page book that wraps around it :-) – will be yours to take back to your home or office for further exploration on these and other topics.
BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP
Please feel free to bring your own laptop, with your favorite Android development environment, so that you can follow along with the code!
