Q. So what is the Perth Slashdot Meetup Group all about?

A. The Perth Slashdot Meetup Group is a way for local Slashdotters to meet in person to talk about "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters."

The group was formed in 2002 when Meetup.com was still in its earlier stages. Since 2002 we have had many, many visitors and although we have had our ups and downs (in terms of attendance) we are now steadily gaining speed... Recent Meetups have been very successful and we are always looking for more Perth Slashdotters to join our growing Members List.

In previous years, Meetups sometimes didn't go ahead because of limited RSVPs, but when they did, everyone had a great time. Since Meetup.com was upgraded and each Meetup Group nominated an Organizer to help things run more smoothly, Meetups have been much more regular and we encourage past members to come back and see what's changed.

There are always a variety of people and topics of conversation at each Meetup, so there really is something for everyone if you happen to be into technology, science, computing or anything else you will see on Slashdot.

Well then, the idea of Meetup.com is quite simple... it is a way for groups of people to organise regular get-togethers in order to share a common purpose or interest. Meetup.com provides the tools to manage the venues, the invites, email mailing lists for members and so on.

In our case, we meet monthly, RSVP via the website and stay in contact between Meetups using the Message Boards. There has been some talk of organising additional 'events' by posting information on things that might be of interest for members of our group e.g. Conferences, Expo's and so on. We welcome feedback and suggestions from our members and everyone gets their say.

We generally stick to the same venue each month, which is currently Fast Eddy's in Perth (where we have been very well looked after and recognised as regulars). Full details of our next Meetup and other information is available by following the links below.

The Perth Slashdot Meetups are free, but Members contribute from time to time to help the Organizer keep up. If you want to sign up and RSVP, you can come along to a Meetup and check it out without any obligation to stay.
