Guest Speaker: Chase Smith, Orange County Ombudsman & Aide to Mayor Teresa Jacobs
Topic: Getting Citizens Involved in Local Government
Chase Smith is a 4th generation Floridian, born and raised in Wauchula, located an hour and a half southwest of Orlando. Chase served on the Wauchula City Council for three, four-year terms helping to build his hometown into a better place. In 2004, Chase moved to Orlando and took the position as Aide to an Orlando City Commissioner. During his seven years at City Hall, Chase quickly developed the reputation as being the "go to guy" in the Office of the City Commissioners. He was known as the person who could get constituents’ issues resolved efficiently and effectively.
In August 2011, Mayor Jacobs named him to be Orange County's first Ombudsman. Mayor Jacobs chose Chase for this role due to his thorough understanding of Orange County’s government, departments and divisions and for his compassionate, patient and objective ability to address difficult matters with, at times, citizens who are frustrated with their government. As the Ombudsman, it is Chase's role to hear complaints and allegations of fraud and abuse in the County government and assist them through the appropriate process.
The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Fairwinds Credit Union Corporate Office (corner of Alafaya Trail & Science), 3087 N Alafaya Trl, Orlando, FL 32826. For more information, please visit our website at www.EOCC.org.
