A tried and true Culture Sponges tradition, our Ethiopian New Year's party. We start out with some really awesome food, then Dj and dancing for the rest of the night.

Really good food, really cool music, really cool people, really interesting atmosphere. I always love it!

Cost is only $20 including your meal and a glass of champagne at midnight.

In case you've never had Ethiopian food, we will have a veggie combo, chicken and beef, all served on ingera (a flat, spongy bread). A platter shared between 4 people. This is both kosher and halal. If you opt out of the meat, you can get more veggies (they are vegan)

You must have a face pic posted on your profile to attend this event!!

The Ethiopian food was delicious but the music was a bit too loud for the size of the room.

The head count for this party is almost 80 people now and all RSVPs are closed.
Just a heads up: Drinks will be self serve at the bar. This is a small, family owned and run place, so the service will be very friendly, but they'll have their hands full for sure. Please be patient, dinner will be served in groups of 4. The DJ will set up after dinner sometime, I encourage you to move around and mingle. I know most of you guys, so I know it's a friendly crowd. See you all tonight!

Is anyone able to give me a ride after the Meetup to either Kitsilano, downtown Vancouver or a Skytrain station? Thank you.

Not sure if face picture posted in time to attend. If so, I would be happy to attend.

Seating and eating will be in groups of 4. As soon as 4 people sit together, they can start being served. 4 people share 1 chicken alicha, 1 beef wot, a veggie combo and injera. There is flexibility around vegetarian preferences.

    Hi Marty
I was invited by Afifeh to join this event but she was only able to add one guest so I am wondering if I can get on the waiting list for this event.

If you no-show at this event without changing your rsvp at least 8 hours before the event, I will ban you from this group. Believe it!

Oh, I'm vegetarian too... if you need to know in advance... but I won't be eating much regardless of how much is left when I arrive... I'll just nibble a little bit. I'm on a raw food diet mainly (80%)

Honestly, I have a little knowledge about Africa, but I really want to understand their culture, because I believe it must be rich and colorful :-)
I am looking forward for this meeting.
    My question is :
Is there any preparation for this wonderful meeting?
