Understanding the Opposite Sex - Part 1 of 2

  • This location is shown only to members

We will listen to a recording by relationship communication expert Alison Armstrong and discuss our opinions and insights.

This will be a 2-part event (there are 4 CDs in the program), followed by four additional listening sessions if you want to learn more about women and why we do what we do (it's really helpful to both men AND women)

In order to book the room at Waves, EVERYONE attending MUST purchase a drink or a snack.

LADIES: If you want a good knowledge base so you get the most out of these workshops, you might want to get the ebook & Q&A video series The Queen's Code at www.queenscode.com - I DO NOT get a commission from this, I just want to share what I've learned. You can read the first chapter for free on the site.

It's $15 ($10 if you buy 2 or more). I just got back from the live workshop that the book is based on. It's a life-changing event and there's also a small book club forming in the Lower Mainland if you want to get involved.

It was from my perspective a wholly positive experience. The inevitable small problems with presenting were handled smoothly. I felt intellectually stimulated. I think everyone handled themselves well during the discussion, without any one person hogging the spotlight. I was mildly concerned that an event such as this would drift into man-bashing or casual misogyny, but I don't think that happened.

Hope I didn't distract anyone with my doodling. It's a new thing that I'm trying to develop into a hobby. And I had a lot of success with that tonight, so it was a very good event for me, although perhaps not for the reason it was supposed to be. I did learn a thing or two as well.

I didn't know I got confirmed until I got home from work. Since I was way down on the bottom of the waiting list I thought I wouldn't get in. It would be great if I get a day's noticed.

no worries, Gord. I wasn't sure if you'd get the notification or not. There was a last minute cancellation so I added you to the list.

I've been listening to Alison Armstrong on Youtube. It's been thought provoking, and so far I haven't heard anything to set off the BS alarm. I suppose it would be preferable for her to say "Women tend to ..." or "Men generally do ...", but I understand that she has limited time and can't put a caveat in front of every statement.
Listening to her reminds me of watching the show Home Improvement. That show often covered communication between men and women, in a humourous way.
I look forward the conversation on Thursday.

That's awesome, Colin. I agree, she does speak in generalities. I was planning to open the meeting with a reminder that she is speaking in general terms, about the typical masculine and feminine. If I forget, please do remind me. in her live workshop, she made a point of telling us that she was "painting in broad strokes" and that everyone is unique and some men are less masculine and some women are less feminine. She speaks in general masculine and feminine energy terms, and everyone has a little masculine and feminine energy, and it's a bit different for everyone.

please sign up for the wait list if you want to attend. It's possible we could do two nights or find a different location. Also, people might opt out if they aren't available the night we have the reservation. Thanks!
