Alison Armstrong uses the metaphor of Hunters and Gatherers with men generally being Hunters and women generally being Gatherers. She says that Gatherers like to share a lot of information that is potentially useful, but doesn't have an immediate central point. This can be confusing for Hunter types who are used to working with points, for example the points of their metaphorical spears. I hope I'm conveying the metaphor as Alison Armstrong meant it. I know that when I am around Hunter types I want to know exactly where the tips of their spears are so I don't accidentally put out my eye on one.
