Update 07/12/13: One Ticket available, £727 for accommodation and train travel !

One more train and accommodation ticket has become available for the group trip to La Clusaz, France trip in January. Hurry if you want to join us!

Travel by train, 7-days half board catered chalet accommodation, all at only £727 (£495 for accommodation + £232 for train travel) !

Hi all! We've got a crazy insane fantastic group trip planned, travel all together as a group by Eurostar to Paris, then overnight TGV (in 6 sleeper "courchettes") to Annecy where we'll be picked up by Absolutely Snow, a short transfer to Chalet Hirondelle in La Clusaz.

About La Clusaz:
----------------
below is a quote from Daniel (link to snowcarbon), who recommended the resort and chalet to us; "If you haven’t heard of La Clusaz it is because it isn’t teeming with English – which is refreshing. The ski area is a sizeable 220km, definitely good for all levels but especially intermediates. Unlike some of the more famous areas, the slopes don’t get too busy and there are some very accessible powder options. Unlike some of the more famous places the powder doesn’t get tracked out, so if there is fresh snow we are in for crazy times!"

About the diggs ( Chalet Hirondelle )
-------------------------------------
* "Chalet Les Hirondelles is spacious and truly luxurious with upgraded facilities and plenty of space to relax and unwind. Log fires, cosy lounges (three, two of these have log fires), stunning location, sun terrace and peace and quiet make this chalet the ideal Alpine getaway location. Add to this the attentive personal service and chauffeur driven vehicles to take you to and from the skiing you have the perfect luxury holiday retreat. If we said that the guest list has included Sting and family then you will get the idea."

* (from Absolutely Snow website)

keeeeeeewwwl! ... from me, totally looking forward to getting out there!

Costs:

------
Trip cost is £ 727 (which includes half board accommodation, overnight train and transfer)

Breakdown:

* £ 495 - accommodation, half board (Awesome NOMS!)
* £ 232 - train and transfer
* £ 165 - optional lift pass (can be purchased in advance or when you arrive.)

Ski school and equipment hire (at extra cost) can be arranged beforehand via Absolutely Snow, or booked after you arrive.

How to book:
------------
£ 100 deposit payable now, and the full balance payable to Absolutely Snow. As soon as we receive your deposit we will email you a reference number to quote to Absolutely Snow so that you can get the group discount. Wait for the reference number by email from us before calling. Ask to speak to Duncan.

No single supplement:
---------------------
Same sex room sharing, ...organise who you're sharing with beforehand and book together, or do this when you arrive.

Questions?
----------
If you have any problem booking on meetup, or did not receive your reference after RSVP-ing then please contact me via meetup. I will email my mobile number to everyone who books.

Overnight train was not so good, issues with room allocation after 4pm was poor. This is my only poor experience of the trip. Everything else was great.

Hey guys, do you know what the address is of Chalet Hirondelle? just so we can tell the taxi driver where abouts it is. Cheers and see you all soon. Hope everyone is stoked!

Hey, Tristan. I'd love to go. I've never been to an indoor. Been riding for 12 years.

Hi Jeffrey, could you and Tristram please post your comments about your indoor trip here (http://www.meetup.com...) so that other folk also interested in indoor ski-ing can join in the conversation and hopefully you'll get more folk to go with you. Txs, A

Hi all, really wanted to get to one of the previous meetups with this group but didn't manage it. Does anyone fancy grabbing a quick drink before the 5th? I'll be heading to Kensington Roof Gardens on the 21st with the Young Professionals in London group if anyone might also be going.
    Cheers

The plan was to get together before we leave but so many people are away for the festive season and we leave just after new year, so not sure anything official will be organised. But I encourage you to meet up if you can. We cannot make the 21st but keep us posted and if we can we will certainly make the trip down to meet up with you guys. Have a great festive season!

      December 18, 2013

    • Greg W.

Hi all. I would like to get together as well. Unfortunately I can't do the 21st. If people are still in London over the holiday period, maybe something between Christmas and New Years?

Hi guys - I just wanted to ask if anyone knows of a good SIM card for the iPhone 4S. A prepay to use while in Le Clusaz, internet, calls, text, the usual stuff. I can't handle another crazy overseas bill. Internet is the most important for me!
    Thanks -

    Hey guys,
I will meet you all there at the chalet as I'm planning on staying in Geneva for a day afterwards and managed to get a good deal on flights there and back. Also Alan, Duncan told me that transfers were £50 from Geneva airport for there and back. Did you guys previously sort out a deal that it was included in accommodation or is it because im travelling separate from the group. I'm happy to pay it just wanted to be sure. Cheers

    November 5, 2013

    • Cathy H.

I have confirmed with the tour operator that the transfer is not included in the accommodation cost but the travel cost, this being the train fare not the separate air fare should you decide to fly instead. If you RSVP and join the trip then all of this could be discussed with the tour operator upon making the booking with them. We are just promoting the trip, all bookings, payments (besides the RSVP fee which comes off your final payment) and personal requirements are dealt with directly by the tour operator. Raoul has already discussed these details with them so this comment is just for information.

      November 5, 2013

    • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Hi Kate, (everyone), unfortunately I've made a mistake, and Cathy is right, the transfer is only included if you go by train. If you fly to Geneva then the transfer cost is £50.

      November 5, 2013

  • Rebecca

Hi Alan, This looks a great trip. Sorry for the extra question(s) but can you confirm the train departure and arrival time coming home?

Hoping to join you, just sorting out a few final details. Thanks

    R

PS is the only way to/from the gondola via the hotel bus? Do the buses run late or can you walk / ski home?

    November 4, 2013

    • Cathy H.

Hi Rebecca, would be great if you could join us. To answer your questions, the TGV train leaves Annecy on the morning of the 12th Jan travelling to Paris where we change and catch the Eurostar for London leaving at 15.13 . I believe the Eurostar takes about 2.5 hours remembering the hour time difference. The exact details will be confirmed closer to the departure date.

      November 5, 2013

    • Cathy H.

We are staying in a catered chalet and there are chalet minibuses at our disposal to get to and from the slopes all day. However, there are apparently also local buses that run. Unfortunately, I don't believe you can ski back to the chalet. Hope you will be joining us!

Is it possible to book a private room for a single person?

    November 2, 2013

    • Amelie

I was wondering about the same thing. How much would it be?

      November 3, 2013

    • Cathy H.

The rooms are based on twin rooms for same sex sharing in order to avoid the single supplement. Unless you are a couple (of course)! Taking a private double or twin room would mean someone else couldn't come with us. If this was a large hotel then single supplements might be possible.

We're sleeping in 6 sleeper "couchettes", not in the seats. Really looking forward to that, havn't slept on a train in quite a few years ;-D ... remember to charge your ipads & tablets and bring with some movies to watch while lying in bed <grin>

    • Jackie

Wow this trip gets better every day..

      1 · November 1, 2013

  • Jackie

Hi Sagit, I had some friends take the snow train last year and you sleep in your seats ass you would on a plane unless like them you drink and party all night then feel a little rough your first day on the slopes. They did say it was a real good experience though and was a great way to get to know each other before the start of the holiday

    October 31, 2013

    • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Hi Jackie, the train tickets that Duncan (Absolutely Snow) has quoted for, (and is the prices I've supplied) are for the "6 sleeper couchettes" sleeper apartments, as described here; http://www.seat61.com... There is an option to take the "reclining seats only" and that is cheaper, but is not what we've quoted for in the train ticket prices for this trip. I'm not sure if Duncan would be able to offer that as he has to make group bookings. You need to ask Duncan if you would prefer to have the cheaper reclining seats. Here's the info for the "couchettes", regards, Alan

  • Sagit

Stupid question- how should I pay absolutely snow the 50 gbp deposit?

    October 30, 2013

    • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Absolutely snow have said that you don't need to pay them the £50, ... you can pay the full balance at the end of November. As long as we've got the initial £50 then that's ok. (assuming you're ok travelling from St Pancras as a group and don't have any custom travel requirements)

      October 30, 2013

    • Sagit

Btw I guess we have a cabin with beds in the train?

      October 31, 2013

  • Sagit

Hi- Is the trip only for very good skiers? Are there also intermediate level skiers?

    1 · October 30, 2013

    • Cathy H.

All levels are welcome, boarders and skiers...even though there is friendly rivalry between them, we all have a great time together on and off the slopes! I am an intermediate skier and boarder so I sit on the fence.....but will probably try the skis this season and get some lessons as well to help the old brain remember how (properly). Beginner, intermediate, expert, crazy tricksters, however you like to enjoy the slopes....come join in the fun!

      October 30, 2013

    • Sagit

Great! Aaall my friends ski off pist and don't even travel to resorts!!!

      October 31, 2013

  • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Hi Kate, as far as I know the train leaves on the 4th, arrives on the 5th. The train is overnight, Eurostar leaves from St Pancras Sat 4th at 5:30pm, arrives Paris 8pm, we depart Paris on (Corail Lunea) at 11:12pm, arriving in Annecy 7:52am on Sunday the 5th. If you have a wedding on, you should be able to fly on the 5th and meet us in La Clusaz. Best person to speak to about the travel is to give Duncan a call.

    October 23, 2013

    • Raoul

Hi Kate and Alan, i was also considering the fly option and was wondering if they are picking you up at Geneva airport and taking you to Le Clusaz and dropping you back? Also does that mean you are flying out on the 12th or the 13th?

      October 30, 2013

    • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Hi Raoul, Cathy and I are going by train, and so are the majority of the folk so far. No one has told me yet that they are flying. I don't know what Kate's decided yet. If you do fly, then Duncan has said that they will collect you from Geneva. i.e. transfers are included in the accommodation price. If in doubt, or you have any travel queries please confirm directly with Duncan, cheers, A

      October 30, 2013

  • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

the same-sex sharing is only if you're travelling on your own, so yes, you can book with your other half and share with them... the rooms are gorgeous, luxury twin and double rooms.

    October 29, 2013

  • Chamba

Hello! Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but is it strictly same-sex sharing or can you book up with your other half and share with them?

    October 25, 2013

  • Natalie

Do you have the total cost? I couldn't see it posted anywhere.

    October 25, 2013

  • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

If anyone has any questions at all, drop them in here and we'll update the meetup description or reply directly to ur questions in the discussion so that everyone can benefit.

    October 25, 2013

  • Natalie

Nevermind, I found the total cost :)

    October 25, 2013

    • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Thanks for pointing out it wasn't obvious, I've updated the title of the meetup. I've also confirmed the accommodation cost of £495 includes airport transfer in case you want to book your own flights. 3 days ago there was some super cheap flights to Geneva, not sure if they're still available?

I have a wedding on 4th so just checking Eurostar leaves London on 5th right?

    October 23, 2013

    • Alan Hemmings (NL A.

Someone mentioned last night there was some super cheap tickets available at the moment to Geneva, I just checked at Skyscanner.net and did find some really cheap, of course not sure for how long. If u find something cheap and want 2 fly then nab it now!
