Training Day @ Hangar 18 Signal Hill (Long Beach) with Brian Chastain [SCRC]

This meetup is for anyone serious about climbing whom already climb. If you don't know how, I will give you a quick once over, but I try to focus on climbing and not teaching (SORRY). We have a variety of regulars that train and climb together both inside and outside. Most everyone boulders, but myself and a few others rope up also.

If you are new, I will give you some suggestions as how to get started with some training things that for the time being I am doing and work, I just don't think they will be suitable for a beginner.

If you are serious and train to elevate your climbing, we will be happy to share what we are doing and what has worked for us. If you have something that works too, by all means, share it. Training is frustrating because we want instant results and we want them now. It is for some and not others. I do know it helps to get involved with a group and try to pair with similar skill levels or get motivated by those at a higher level. I currently boulder in the V5-V7 inside and outside.

Usually we come in and get to work by performing 4x4’s followed by a strenuous core routine and pull-up/push-up pyramid on the hang-boards. We normally don’t go in and climb for success (e.g. look to send projects on rope or bouldering). We usually do the 4x4’s on the bouldering, but our gym was recently bought by Hangar 18 and we are looking forward to our rope climbing to improve. We will likely transition to doing a day of rope and a day of bouldering.

We also have some very nice ladies and gents that climb together in less of a training way. Let’s face it, work sucks and climbing with friends and nice peeps is a great way to wind down. So if you are positive and looking to meet some new people, come on down even if you are totally new. If you are one of our regular crew, RSVP so we know who’s coming.

Thanks, Brian
