Announcing a new Meetup for Southern California Mindfulness Communities!

What: Weekend Retreat at Deer Park Monastery Escondido

When: November 27,[masked]:00 PM

Deer Park Monastery
2499 Melru Road
Escondido, CA 92026
[masked] x100

We are going to join the monks and nuns of Deer Park Monastery in Escondido for the weekend. They are in their winter retreat, which is a time for them to delve deeply into their own practice. Deer Park is a monastery that practices in the Vietnamese Zen Buddhist tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. No prior experience is necessary. We will be full participants in the monastery activities that weekend.

Below is a rough schedule of the events:

Friday night there will be dinner in silence, followed by an orientation where we meet all the weekend's retreatants and get a general introduction to the practices of the monastery.

Saturday starts early with wake up at 5:30 for sitting meditation at 6:00am. Then there will be breakfast, and then a working meditation where we practice mindfulness in some sort of service to the community.

Here is a generic schedule from their website:

Sunday will probably be sitting meditation, eating meditation (breakfast), walking meditation, and a dharma talk, followed by lunch.

Most of the day is spent in some sort of mindfulness practice, so there aren't tons of opportunities to connect as a group, but I would love to organize carpooling down and back as a way for people to get to know one another and share their experiences from the weekend.

So here are some links for you to explore if you are interested:

Visiting them: (we would be attending as general stay guests)

Please fully explore the website before registering. If you still have questions, you can e-mail them or me. I am going to be staying in a tent at a minimum donation of $25 per night (it will be cold if you want to tent, so make sure you have all the right gear). There are also dorm rooms available at a minimum donation of $35 per night.

All registration and payment is done through their website above.
