We'll journey over to Marie Callender's Restaurant for post-movie chat and eats.

Join Maria AKA BustAGroove and the sci-fi Fanatics for a Sony Pictures' CAN'T MISS FLICK produced by Peter Jackson (of Lord of The Rings' trilogy fame). Jackson was on hand for a FIRST-TIME APPEARANCE at Comic Con 2009 for "District 9" panel discussion and presented exclusive trailers for this movie. I was in the Comic Con audience and we were clapping and cheering after seeing the first 10+ minutes of this documentary-style tale of aliens who are forced into the ghettos of Johannesburg. This film marks a return of sorts for Jackson to his low-budget roots.

Premise: 28 years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's "District 9" as the world's nations argued over what to do with them.

Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare – they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens' awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.

The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable – he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

Cast: Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, David James, Mandla Gaduka, William Allen Young, Vanessa Haywood, Kenneth Nkosi, Devlin Brown

@D9movie was off the chain @ Comic Con & at theatre!!!!! Well-written story, character development & more than enough exploding heads/body parts. Central character reminded me of Michael Scott's persona and physical presence in the tv series, "The Office" - weird. Many sociopolitical & morality issues. Prawns exhibited more "humanity" than humans. Do I smell Oscar bait? Remember, there' s 10 slots for Best Picture noms :) Thanks Mischa, George, Geoff & Ryan for coming out to see this can't-miss flick. The R-rating for bloody violence is serious folks. I didn't see any kids in the audience like I did for Watchmen = :). Post-movie discussion & eats at Marie Callender's followed and it was great to hear everyone's thoughts about the movie & how it was left open for a sequell. Service at Marie Callender's was attentive w/yummy food. Going w/hubby when he goes to see this flick. I so much wanted to give him spoilers :)
