PLOT SUMMARY

"August: Osage County" tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year.

It continued with a successful international run and was the winner of five Tony Awards in 2008, including Best Play.

Director John Wells handpicked an excellent cast for the film companion to the original black comedy-cum-domestic stage drama. The intensity and affirmations were so overwhelming, from the opening scene to end credits, my own emotions were subdued. The level of dysfunctionalism on the screen was so profound and off the charts it was palpable. An ensemble cast achievement! lool As our fellow member Sheryl, I felt compelled to excuse myself and take a breather in the lobby.

Streep's performance was another masterstroke, securing her nomination for Best Actress at next year's Oscar ceremony. And she made it look so effortless. lol

It was great seeing you all for our finale event. I look forward to another memorable year at the movies this group! :-)

Take it easy on the old guy Charles. At his age, his eyesight and memory is not what it use to be.

For the record I'm not ditching solely because it's now in Hollywood. My neighbor gave me a screener copy so I'm saving my $15 :) I'll let you know how it is.
