Please use my contact information if you're running late, lost or change in plans. "Avatar" is also an emotional journey of redemption and revolution. It is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in biodiversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival," and "... creating an entire world, a complete ecosystem of phantasmagorical plants and creatures, and a native people with a rich culture and language." Please join BustAGroove and the Sci-Fi Fanatics Crew for a highly-anticipated IMAX 3-D film that's one of this year's blockbusters reuniting James Cameron (Aliens, Titanic) Sigourney Weaver (Aliens) and James Horner (composer - Aliens, Titantic) - "Avatar".
Premise: A paraplegic ex-marine war veteran is unwillingly sent to establish a human settlement on the distant planet of Pandora, only to find himself battling humankind alongside the planet's indigenous Na'vi race in this ambitious, digital 3-D sci-fi epic from Academy Award-winning Titanic director James Cameron. The film, which marks Cameron's first dramatic feature since 1997's Titanic, will be shot on the proprietary FUSION digital 3-D cameras developed by Cameron and will offer a groundbreaking mix of live-action dramatic performances and computer-generated effects. The revolutionary motion-capture system created for the film allows the facial expressions of actors to be captured as a virtual camera system enables them to see what their computer-generated counterparts will be seeing in the film, and Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning Weta Digital visual effects house has been hired to supervise Avatar's complex visual effects.
Trivia: Cameron originally attempted to get this film made in 1999 as his immediate follow-up to Titanic (1997). However, at the time, the special effects he wanted for the movie ran the proposed budget up to $400 million. No studio would fund the film, and it was subsequently shelved for almost ten years.
Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald
Run Time: 2 hrs. 30 mins (The Dark Knight was 2 hrs. 32 mins)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking
IF YOU STILL LOVE GOING TO THE MOVIES, THEN SOCAL MOVIE FANATICS IS THE PLACE TO BE!

TV's are bigger than ever and surround sound systems put out sonic level audio. But NOTHING beat the experience of walking up to the theatre anticipating the next great flick. Yeah, your microwave can pop out a nice bag of popcorn, but your kitchen pales by comparison to the smell of freshly popped corn and (REAL!) melted butter on display at the concession stand. And no 70-80 inch HDTV can stand up to the experience of watching the curtains part at TCL Chinese Theatre or the Cinerama Dome @ ArcLight Hollywood revealing that massively huge screen projecting the next great Hollywood hit. Around here, going to the movies is AN EVENT. And no other Meetup group in LA does the movie-going experience better than SoCal Movie Fanatics!
