I am linking this event with another Meetup group. There will be 10 others joining us.
Let's go hike Morrow Mountain State Park. Morrow Mountain is situated in the Uwharrie Mountains between Asheboro and Charlotte. The Uwharries are known more for their history than for their elevation. They are the oldest mountain range in the US.
Our day will start at 6:30am in the parking lot of REI in Cary. Here, we will arrange our carpools and then head off to the park. Once there, we will gather at the park office to start hiking.
We will then start hiking the Sugarloaf trail (2.8 miles strenuous) and Morrow Mountain trail (2.6 miles moderate, one way).
Once we complete that hike, we can hike some more if there is time and energy. There are many more trails. Or we can hang out at the riverbank. There is an exhibit hall and historic site that we can go visit as well.
Plan for an all day event. I like to use up every bit of daylight to make the drive worthwhile.
Hikers should be fairly fit and able to hike at 2-3 miles/hour.
