It's time for outdoor Summer movies! Let's head to Valentino Park in Red Hook to see, Ridley Scott's 1979 classic, "Alien". From Rotten Tomatoes: "A close encounter of the third kind becomes a Jaws-style nightmare when an alien invades a spacecraft in Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror classic."
The movie's famous tagline was, "In space, no one can hear you scream."
From the director of "Blade Runner," "Gladiator," the 1984 Apple Commercial, the now-in-theaters, "Prometheus," and "Thelma & Louise," (for which he received an Oscar nomination), "Alien," was the movie that put Ridley Scott on the map. It also made Sigourney Weaver a star as she portrayed one of the first female action heroes. The movie starts slow as it builds up a feeling of dread and claustrophobia (in the characters AND the audience).
You can see a trailer for the movie here: http://redhookflicks.com/movie_schedule/
Here's is the trailer for the Director's Cut (this trailer is arguably scarier): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eIpvZsEky4
Directions are here: http://redhookflicks.com/location/ (Though, technically, this is not in either Park Slope or Carroll Gardens, both neighborhoods can get to Red Hook using the B61 bus.)
There will be gourmet popcorn for $1 a bag and some Red Hook restaurants selling food, as well (specific will be available as we get closer to the date). If people are interested, we will grab a drink afterwards at Botanica or Sunny's.
If you've never seen, "Alien," this is a great opportunity to see it. If you've seen it before like I have, it's an excellent opportunity to get the pants scared off you, again, and to scream with an audience!
The cost of the movie is free. If you would like to donate $1.00 in person to help me defray the $19/month that Meetup charges me to be the organizer, that would be greatly appreciated.
I hope to see you at the movies!
