Columbus Day Foliage Beginner Hike in the Blue Hills

Beginner to advanced beginner pace walk on the Ponkapoag Trail. Love to see the leaves and get some fresh air. It's one of my favorite walks and it's mostly flat. It's 4.5 to 5 miles.

I had a great time co-hosting this with Suzanne. Thanks to Bill for sweeping. And I'm finally back online...my 7 year old computer crashed Friday night. Only now did I get my brand new computer operating!

I will be "leading" this event (maybe co-hosting with Suzzane S )Please be ON TIME! Hike will take approximately 1.5 to 1.75 hours @ a "moderate" pace.

    October 11, 2013

    • Debbie

I might be on the slow-mid pace but, no worries, as I know the trail well.

      October 11, 2013

  • Dot

Is this a trail? or are we walking the golf course?

    October 9, 2013

    • Carolyn

      trail around the pond

      October 9, 2013

    • Debbie

      Yes a trail

      October 11, 2013

  • Dot

Yes Debbie I can see that and that is where my question comes from. It says Blue Hills but a golf course is listed. I have played golf there and it is a small parking lot and the course is open. I don't really want to walk the golf course unless I am playing golf. So I am looking for more clarity on this location? where we are walking? Parking? meeting? who is host? a contact number the usual stuff.

    October 11, 2013

    • The Gerry L.

Park in lot (as if you were playing golf). Meet by "entrance gate" to near clubhouse. Hike NOT on "the green". It STARTS on a paved path (by clubhouse), which leads to where the "trail" begins (about 1/4 mile in).

    October 11, 2013

    • Debbie

      Address is listed

      October 11, 2013

Hi I am wondering who is running this event? And are we talking about Houghtons Pond (exit 3 off of Rt 93? where are we meeting it says the golf course ??

    October 11, 2013

    • Debbie

A persistent back injury would slow my pace and shorten my distance, making this hike impossible. Saw my chiropractor yesterday, so I hope I'll get another chance!

    October 11, 2013

  • Suzanne S

Glad so many people can come. It's 20% chance of rain and windy.

Are hiking boots recommended or are sneakers okay?

    September 29, 2013

    • The Gerry L.

IMO, it can never hurt to have good hiking boots. But for this trail (mostly flat and at a relatively slow pace) sneakers are adequate for some. But be prepared to feel all the stones and pebbles under your feet if you wear sneakers. Hiking boots have thicker soles (among other attributes) that reduce this potential discomfort.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
