I'm excited about this opportunity of bringing many different types of people together to discuss the topics and questions that interest them.
The goal is to more deeply understand our own opinions AND the opinions of others.
Just four things to remember:
1. Each group member should help to ensure an equal exchange of dialogue among all members of the group. In other words, no one person should monopolize a discussion. Everyone should have an equal chance to contribute!
2. Please show respect to your fellow group members. For example, try to avoid words like “fu*****.” Although it doesn’t bother me, some people don’t like to hear that type of language. And there are many other more imaginative adjectives you can substitute to make your point more convincing, don’t you think?
3. Don’t take personal offence to the comments of others! Everyone in the group should feel free to stare his/her true opinions regarding the topic of discussion. Please just try to avoid outright “fighting.” (i.e. personal accusations, screaming, fist fighting in the parking lot, etc.)
4. Have fun! Enjoy the liberty of freely expressing your ideas in the group!
This is more or less an “experimental” group right now. In future meetings, we’ll discuss whether it’s necessary to develop more guidelines.
I’m looking forward to meeting you in person!
