Is being a Highly Sensitive Person adaptive in our culture?

  • August 22, 2012 · 7:00 PM

See http://www.hsperson.com/pages/test.htm and other parts of Elaine Aron's HSP research for a background in Highly Sensitive Person research. There is also a book "Quiet - The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain. However this book confuses HSP characteristics with introvert characteristics. Aron believes they overlap with 70% of HSPs introverted and 30% extroverted.

it sounds like a wonderful meeting....i am so so sorry i missed it. i talked today with my art prof painter and he said when he paints he feels sort of hum, like a meditation style OHM.....depending on warm or cool colors he's using. this simply blows me away.....it sounds like this topic could use more than one meetup!

Last night we ended with questions of how emotional sensitivity relates to Sensory Processing Sensitivity (the scientific term for the HSP trait). This link is Elaine Aron's discussion of the topic based on the article published in Psychology Today a year ago that gave the trait mainstream media attention for the first time. http://www.hsperson.com/pages/1...

Well, best laid plans, etc. I had to work and could not make this meeting. I am really sorry that I could not attend. Work hours have been adjusted so this will not happen again if I can help it.

Wow 19 people! I just called Panera Bread to ask for suggestions how to accommodate all of us. Nick will be the manager on duty tomorrow night and is now aware of our needs. They will do what they can. I'm thinking we might want to split into 3 groups of 6/7 and then switch half the group each half hour. Anyone else have an idea?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
