RE: [socratescafe-114] Socrates Cafe This Sunday - Back to the historical format

My experience has been that Norm offers the opportunity to suggest a topic for discussion to every person who attends, and then everyone votes on the subject to be discussed. Many times, it ends up being matters related to politics or government, social issues, philosophical concepts, etc. If the discussion ends up being on religion, it’s because those attending on that particular day decided that’s what they wanted to discuss.

Couldn't agree more about the focus on religion.  I stopped coming for precisely that reason.

Why does this Socrates Cafe seem more like a club centered around theology than anything else? This deters me from coming.

Dear fellow seekers after truth,

At 2:30 PM we will be having a lecture on Religion and Science and be talking about the idea of "God the Watchmaker".  There will be 30 minutes of lecture and 30 minutes of discussion on this topic.

At 3:30 PM we will have an open discussion which will be done by choosing from questions that have been proposed by those who attend.

Hope you can attend.

For Truth
