Announcing a new Meetup for Socrates Cafe!
What: Socrates Cafe October Meetup
When: October 12,[masked]:30 PM
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Meetup Description: Dear Socrates Cafe-goers,
We decided by a plurality vote at the end of our last meeting that we'd focus our next discussion on medical ethics. There was particular interest (I seem to recall) in beginning-of-life ethical issues and end-of-life ethical issues. Some closely related questions relevant to both types of issue are: When is a human life worth preserving? What makes a human life worth preserving when it is worth preserving? Under what conditions is a human life not worth preserving? (Since our focus is supposed to be medical ethics, and not at all the death penalty, assume that the human life under consideration is not the life of someone convicted of a serious crime.)
Due to the difficulty of finding a venue on a Saturday, I had to schedule the meeting for Sunday. I hope it is late enough in the afternoon that it won't conflict with any other commitments you have.
Note that we're back at the Panera on National & Elm this time.
Hope to see you next Sunday!
Yours in Socrates,
