Re: [socratescafe-119] New Meetup: Socrates Cafe January Meetup

Andy,  During a quiet time last night I began to think:  Why do humans have an insatiable need to have to create idols to worship?  They have created Gods and the Devil.  They have created heroes out of those who have achieved leadership in their society.  This has led to conflict over whose God or hero is the greatest.   This has necessitated the creatiion of myths to substantiate supremacy.  What hero could better any hero that can raise the dead, or rise from the dead etc.  Why do knowledgeable persons insist on maintaining the orthodoxy that is extant in their group?   Congratulations on your freedom of thought.

Subject: [socratescafe-119] New Meetup: Socrates Cafe January Meetup

Announcing a new Meetup for Socrates Cafe!

What: Socrates Cafe January Meetup

When: January 24,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Last time we decided to discuss at our next meeting a question that, for a philosophy discussion group, is quite fundamental: What is philosophy? What makes a question a philosophical question? What sorts of subject matter does philosophy cover?

I don't want to say too much about this topic, as I have my own preconceptions that I want to keep to myself until our discussion. I'm curious to find out what some of you think about the nature of philosophy.

Panera meeting rooms are hard to come by these days. So for our January Meetup we'll be at Big Momma's Coffee Bar on Commercial St.

Hope to see you there.

Yours in Socrates,
