Announcing a new Meetup for Socrates Cafe Tokyo Meetup Group!

What: July Socrates Cafe

When: July 26,[masked]:00 PM

Gonpachi, Shibuya
14F. E.Space Tower 3-6 Maruyama-cho

Hey folks,

After a couple of months of sort of heavy topics, I was in the mood for something a little lighter. So, conceived in beer-fueled debate in Plato's Pub and shaped by many rounds of emails into a discussion catalyst, I present this month's topic (lightly inspired by a suggestion to talk about Michael Jackson):

Fame. Is it good? What are its benefits and drawbacks. For an individual, for society? What is the purpose of fame?

Brush up on your People magazine and Ok! tabloid stories! No, just kidding, but do bring a fun and light attitude to go with the heat that's finally picking up in Tokyo.

As always, if there are more than 10 people, we'll split into smaller groups.

1) The last couple of meetups, we've had a lot more people than we expected to show up. While we're, of course, always happy to welcome the more the merrier, please keep your RSVP numbers (including guests) as up-to-date as possible, even if that means updating the morning of the event. Gonpachi has always been very accommodating, but as our group grows, it's also become much more difficult to keep us organized and set up with drinks and food.

2) Please try to be at the event no later than 3:30 and if you think you wouldn't be able to make it until well after that, please consider just meeting us at Hemel (the Belgian beer bar) from about 5pm onwards. In the last meeting we had many late-comers, and, again, while we're always happy to see new and familiar faces, it can be a disruption to the discussion as well as to the waitstaff to try to accommodate a continuously growing group (last month we went from one to two to three tables, luckily there was room for us).

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation so that we can all enjoy these monthly get-togethers.
