BASE Homebrew Job Fair

We are having the seventh installment of the BASE Job Fair. These are home brew small informal job fairs without all the fuss of a large convention hall. We limit the amount of companies to 15 to keep the job fair small and intimate.

Engineers

----------------------------

The event is free for engineers looking for opportunities.

Please register on meetup and also the BASE Job Fair site if you can: http://basejobfair.org/register/

Hiring principals often bring along engineers from the team to help spot qualified candidates so expect to be speaking with recruiters and engineers in most cases.

Employers

----------------------------

Employer Passes are $300.00 depending on the size of the company and each come with a table, chairs, and the ability to post banners.  Pricing is completely negotiable.

Employer Passes are Purchased on the BASE Job Fair Website:

http://basejobfair.org/employers/

Banners, table cloths, and anything that can be given out is perfectly fine to bring to the fair as long as it doesn't damage the venue. WiFi will be available at the venue and plugs for monitors and computers.

Feel free to email [masked] also for more information.

Catzilla

----------------------------

CatZilla™ offers teachers and schools a more accurate way to evaluate student understanding and measures growth over time. CatZilla™ is Intelligent Software. As more and more users use CatZilla™, it becomes smarter and smarter. As the system learns the particular items that have helped increase certain participating student’s understanding, it knows administering those same items to other student’s who think and reason in a similar manner will help them progress.

Competitors who use the traditional Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) model are implementing a “glorified scantron approach” and marketing it as adaptive or personalized learning. These systems only use correct-and-incorrect answers as feedback to teachers which provides little to no actionable data. Plus, results from these types of grading tool’s can be flawed - misdiagnosing student’s true level of understanding.

Really liked the fact that it was a smaller job fair. Company reps were more interested in the potential employees and discussions seemed to be more meaningful. Company displays would have greatly helped the process and air conditioning (of any kind) was also desirable. Overall it was a great experience and I can't wait to attend the next BASE meetup

It would help if each company had a visible sign identifying themselves. I don't care if it is hand written as long is it can be read from behind the immediate crush of people around the representative. Half the companies did not, and it was a mystery who they were until you waited in line to ask them.

While the temperature in the room was high during the event, overall the event was a big success.

    Hi

    March 17, 2014

  • Caleb & J.

Hello, I registered under my boyfriend's name who's the CS student graduating in May, is it still okay for me to attend under his name and will employers likely turn me away? He can't afford a flight here...plus, to be honest I want to surprise him as a present.

    • Michael L.

This is the sweetest thing I've seen on a meetup, ofcourse you can come, it will certainly make it memorable for the employers. Bring his resume and have a good time.

Would this be a good event for a CS student looking for a summer internship/learning opportunity?

    1 · February 24, 2014

    • Michael L.

Several employers will have internship and beginner engineer positions. We will have a job board with open positions launched on our Website shortly.
