One of the best by far is Jira by Atlassian. Check out their products page at You can either buy into their hosted solution (saas) or purchase it and install it on your own server. I used basecamp but switched to Jira because it was easy to bend it to your projects planning strategy.

What are you guys using for project management?
I know BaseCamp is supposedly the bees' knees but quite expensive and ActiveCollab, the previously "free" alternative to it is now much less free. Are there any other solutions, possibly open-source, that provide the necessary tools for basic project management? I use MantisBT for bug/task management but I'm looking for tools that can help with online collaboration on documents and "who's doing what" project management. Something I can install locally preferred.
