Thundering Waters- Hike, waterfalls, hot springs

This will be about 2-2 1/2 hour drive to see waterfalls. Some are close to the road and easy hikes. Hopefully we will be able to complete 3 of the easy hikes and 1 moderate to the waterfalls. If we have time and energy we will also stop at a small hot springs spa. You will need to plan on this being a fairly long day.

You will need to bring with you a camera, sack lunch, snacks, sodas or water, a swimsuit, etc. and $10.00 for the van driver.

Warm Springs Falls: Easy 0.3 mile Columns of basalt are continuously pounded as this waterfall thunders over the 70 foot drop into the pool below.

Clearwater Falls: Easy 400 feet. This 30 foot falls cascades over moss-covered rocks and logs is only a short walk up the Clearwater River. The falls are adjacent to Clearwater Falls Campground.

Whitehorse Falls: Easy Punchbowl type falls adjacent to Whitehorse Falls Campgrounds. We will have an immediate view of this 15-foot falls on the Clearwater River.

Watson Falls: Moderate 0.4 mile This majestic waterfall is the highest in the southwest Oregon, plunging 272 feet over the edge of a basalt lava flow. A wooden bridge crosses Watson Creek 0.3 mile from the trailhead. The falls are also visible from the parking area.

Toketee Falls: Moderate 0.4 mile The trail leads visitors through an old growth forest along the North Umpqua River with views of cascading water through a narrow rock gorge. The trail has 200 steps leading to a sturdy deck overlooking the two tiered falls.

These are suggested waterfalls. No one has to walk any further than they desire. But I am offering a couple of varieties for those that would not mind a moderate hike.

If time allows we may try to make it to the hot springs spa which would allow for a dip in the spring's water.

CARPOOLING/VAN: Will meet up off Crater lake Hwy between Taco Bell and the Gas Pumps at 8:00. Chris from Happy Trails is providing a Van can accommodate 14.  8 sign ups with Medford Metropolitan Hiking.  However if any wish to carpool and follow the van more are very welcome to come.

Such a great day! It was nice to see waterfalls we hadn't seen before, and it was nice to hang out with my grand son and his buddy. The boys had a great time using my grand son's underwater camera and got to wear off some of that enviable energy. Nice to meet everyone and share the day! Will upload photos soon.

Chris is supplying the Van and I am collecting the $10.00 to help defray the cost of gas fill up, etc. for the van.

Hi, I live in Grants Pass, could that possibly be a pick up location? Also, I have a little (well behaved) pooch that I hike with when I can. Would that be possible if he sat on my lap?

    • Alice S. T.

Michele sorry but we won't be going close to Grants Pass. I would love to say yes to the dog but it will be crowded with people. You might want to ask Chris since he is the driver and it is his van.

Any clue as to a time we might return to Medford? ...also, what is our return route?

    August 20

    • Alice S. T.

Our return route will be back by Diamond lake 138 to Crater Lake Hwy 62, and then back to Taco Bell near Fred Myers on Crater Lake Avenue. It will be a long day and I figure 6-7p.m. It is about 220 miles round trip.

It has been a few years since I have been to these waterfalls. All of them are beautiful. I encountered mosquitoes on the way to Warm Springs Falls, so be prepared.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
