INSTRUCTIONS FOR POSTING:

CLICK "ADD A REPLY" - DO NOT CLICK "START A NEW DISCUSSION".

Info sent to the Organizer to be posted on behalf of groups may be delayed because we do not have paid admin staff. We strongly encourage individuals that represent local groups or organizations to join the SoJust network so they can post to this Message Board directly and without delay. There is no required membership fee to join.

I'll close this message string to new replies when we reach 9 replies and start a new thread in its place. That way we'll always be checking out the most recent action items, but we'll keep an archive of the other ones posted - so you can know who to contact for future collaborations.

Thanks for looking - and posting!
Robbie

Friends:

Beginning in July 2009 and through year 2010, approximately 28,000 people are at risk of losing access to health insurance via cuts to the state budget.

These persons are largely immigrants, legal residents, who are already on limited incomes and cannot afford to purchase healthcare outright.

PLEASE take a few minutes to write to Governor Patrick and request that an amendant or revision be implemented to the 2010 budget.

You may use this website to make this easier!

Thank you!!

Dear CORI Coalition Endorser:

On behalf of the Commonwealth CORI Coalition, thank you for supporting
the statewide effort to pass CORI reform this year. After several
months of high profile events, we are moving to the phone-lines to
build pressure in key legislative districts across the state.

We are asking our 80+ Coalition members and hundreds of individual
supporters to assist us in a statewide phone banking effort. In
particular, we are asking Coalition supporters to recruit at least 2
articulate volunteers to call other residents and ask them to contact
their legislators for CORI.

A script will be provided, and CORI phone banking can be a fun and
meaningful volunteer activity. Calls can be made in groups or on your
own time. We will be targeting residents in suburban and rural
districts as an essential strategy for our campaign.

The link above goes to the online Volunteer Recruitment Form. Please
help us recruit potential volunteers by Thursday, August 13.

For any questions or comments, contact Mike at BWA at CORIcoalition [at] gmail [dot] com

Please follow the link above and help win CORI reform in 2009!

Deutsche Bank is the #1 forecloser and evicter in the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They have consistently refused to negotiate with homeowners and tenants. But while they are throwing you and/or your neighbors out of your homes, they are dining with Tiger Woods and other PGA stars at the posh 4 Seasons hotel. Come and speak out against Deutsche's "Fore!"closures.

P.S. Tiger and the other players have been invited to attend the protest.

Help Prevent Overdose Deaths in Massachusetts - Support The 911 Good Samaritan Campaign!

Senate Bill 1843—An Act to Reduce Opioid Overdose Deaths:
SB1843 protects overdose witnesses and overdose victims from being charged or prosecuted for possession
of a controlled substance when calling 911 to seek medical help during an overdose.

SB1843 does not protect people from being charged or prosecuted for offenses other than possession of a
controlled substance, such as drug trafficking. In fact, the Massachusetts Association of Police Chiefs has
recently testified in support of House Bill 1653, one of the three pending 911 Good Samaritan Bills.

How you can support The 911 Good Samaritan Campaign:

Contact the Joint Judiciary Committee Chairs, Senator Creem at 617-722-1639 & Representative
O’Flaherty at 617-722-2396, and Members of the Judiciary Committee & ask them to support SB1843. Call
the Judiciary Chairs or visit www.mass.gov/legis/comm/j19.htm to get a list of Judiciary Members.

Find out who your legislators are by visiting: www.wheredoivotema.com or calling 800-462-8683 (VOTE).
Use the script below to write, email or call your legislators asking them to support SB1843:

Hello. My name is _______________________ and I am a constituent in the district that
Representative/Senator _______________________ represents. I’d like to ask
Rep./Sen. _______________________ to support SB1843 – An Act Relating to Controlled
Substances and Medical Treatment introduced by Representative Peisch.

Passing Senate Bill 1843 is important because:
• Overdose death rates have been steadily increasing in Massachusetts from 1990 to 2007.
• Nearly two people die every day in Massachusetts from an opiate-related overdose death.
• An overdose is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention by calling 911.
• Many witnesses don’t call 911 for help during an overdose because they are afraid of police
involvement.
• It will save lives by making it more likely overdose witnesses will call 911 for help.

Thank you for your support of this important legislative initiative. Contact the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery to learn how to get involved in supporting the 911 Good Samaritan Campaign—617-423-6627 or maryanne [at] moar-recovery.org. Write a letter to the editor of a local paper about how passing SB1843 will save lives in Massachusetts. Attend the October 27th Judiciary Hearing at 1 PM in room B-1, State House—Boston.

Please share this information with friends, advocates, and colleagues and ask them to call their legislators.

If you need further information from DPH please contact Jim Hiatt at James [dot] Hiatt [at] state.ma.us or 617-624-5102.
