Parent to Type I Diabetic child, Buddhist, regional VP of NOW in PNW 30 years ago...once was middle class and now am well below the poverty line and learning so much!
I am involved in Tibetan Buddhist communities in Vermont and Nepal. I keep in touch via email and travel to teachings in VT when I can. That would be the "FUN" part of my life. My specific interests are sustainable living for ALL, homelessness, equitable healthcare - healthcare more equitably distributed - women, people of color, and those below the poverty line for instance, equitable Legal services for the poor, etc. I also have a fascination with clean water and sanitation. We assume it will always be there, but it is a myth, and we live on the edge of ecological disaster in an urban area like Boston if clean water distribution or sewage disposal is disrupted by natural calamity. We can lighten the burden of the already stressed infrastructure by taking new and rehabbed real estate off the "water/sewage grid" with genuinely sustainable methods of development. That requires educating the pols on Beacon Hill, and breaking up the entrenched lobbies. Big, Exciting Work!
I found this meetup via Boston Volunteers and Boston Support Group for Survivors of Abuse, both of which are meetup sites. I have to say my search started after speaking with the woman who answered the phone at the Deputy Tax Collector's Office in Canton. 781-828-4219. I think her name was Michelle. She told me I wasn't alone as a recently divorced parent, and to get out there and connect with others. It would do me good and help others.
