Hi. I teach and write about environment and social justice--was until recently in academia but now freelance. I live in western Mass but am spending time in Boston and hope to move in before too long so would be great to meet people in this group!
(Your "introduction" will be visible on the homepage.) Use this space to provide links or more info: What social justice issues do you care deeply about? Do you work with any organizations or specific communities? What do you do for FUN? Thanks!
I'm especially interested in how visions and goals for progressive organizations are evolving in this tumultuous phase we seem to be in and trying to find ways to facilitate that evolution--most groups are so flat out with core work I think there's a need to create space for more reflection and dialogue. Also very intersted in how local groups and movements scale up (or don't) to tie in with larger scale movements. As for fun, I'm pretty eclectic and game. Lot of outdoor stuff, biking and x-c skiing. I've started singing in the past year (lessons and just joining a chorus) and want to learn guitar. Dancing is good. Mostly finding fun people to do...whatever...with, though.
How did you hear about Socializing for Justice? Please be specific so we know which websites, listserves or people to thank.
It popped up while I was looking through Urban Homesteaders website.
Socializing for Justice (SoJust) is all about building a cross-cultural, cross-issue progressive community, network and movement in Boston based on the Philosophy of Abundance. We're doing it by putting the SOCIAL back in SOCIAL JUSTICE. We host events twice a month to meet each other and make connections. No Program. No Speaker. Just Us. Newcomers always welcomed!
**You must be a member to RSVP or post an event on the message board. Not a member?
It's free to join - share as much or as little as you'd like about your connection to social justice.
We may seem like just another liberal social group but get involved to find outwhat we can create together!
Join us if you want to CROSS-PROMOTE your events and campaigns, are NEW TO THE AREA and looking for groups to get involved in, or you've been looking for LIKE-MINDED PROGRESSIVES to hang with in Boston. Join us if you are ready to go BEYOND ALLIES and build a CROSS-ISSUE PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT.
YES, WE MEAN YOU. We've got members of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, levels of activism, and professions - born in Boston to just moved here. We hope you see someone like yourself and meet someone you otherwise wouldn't have.
Want to know about PROGRESSIVE EVENTS in Boston? We CROSS-POST events we hear about on the SoJust CALENDAR - see what's going on this week.
