Leonard Buck Gardens in Far Hills photo walk

The Leonard J. Buck Garden is one of the premier rock gardens in the eastern United States. Begun in the late 1930's, the garden has reached a breathtaking point of maturity. It consists of a series of alpine and woodland gardens situated in a 33-acre wooded stream valley. Named for Mr. Leonard J. Buck, who developed the garden as part of his estate, it was donated to the Somerset County Park Commission by Mrs. Helen Buck in 1976.

That's what the Park Commission says, I say it is a great place to take photos, especially in the spring. We'll have plenty to shoot. Meet in the parking lot, the gates open at 10 a.m.

Carol, click on the buck garden meet up (in past meetups). Then there will be an icon on the right just under the title- it says "upload". Click on that. It'll walk you through the rest.

I loved Buck Gardens today but am not sure how to upload pictures to this page. Thanks for help, Carol

Carol if you look above you will see the photo count that has already been uploaded and below that is the link to upload. Select the file(s) you want to upload from your PC's folder where you have your shots stored and then click on upload and thats all there is to it. Let me know if you have any other concerns.

gorgeous day especially after yesterday's drenching rain....the grounds were a tad squishy but everything was beautiful!

Actually got more time in talking to people than shooting photos. Cant always be about the photo taking right? Helped out a few people with their camera settings and also learned a thing or 2 as well from others. Definitely the Somerset group is the most active and most cordial.

Andrea did good job on starting every off in good direction. It's a great place for beautiful weather. It was nice getting together with all the wonderful people. Glad that I went.

With all this rain, Buck Gardens can get a little soggy. I recommend wearing boots tomorrow. See you all there!

Well gang, money talks and I need to miss this one for a paying gig. Andrea is going to take over as outing leader, she's been there before and knows the grounds. She'll get you heading in the right direction. I'll look forward to seeing lots of great photos posted.

Not able to make this as I'm planning on heading to Blairsden to walk around and take some photos. It's been on my list of places to check out since it was in Weird Nj magazine years ago and now it's open to the public this month for $50 per ticket.

Depending on the time I finish at Blairsden, I may also stop by Natirar (another estate in Peapack named for the Raritan river - Natirar is Raritan spelled backwards).

Sorry, but I have to drop out of this event. Something else has come up in another part of the state.

for Nikon users, I'll be bringing a 50mm macro, a 90mm macro, and two lens babies if anyone would like to try them.

  • Niels K.

What focal length range would you recommend for this trip? Current options are 17-55 &[masked]

    May 14, 2014

    • Loren F.

Yes. Bring them both and a macro if you have it.

      May 14, 2014

    • carter

a[masked], focused @70 & f5.6 or f8 for flowers (or small group of flowers.) the 17-55 will have extreme dof @ 17 (great for infinty in focus shots, such as a large bed of flowers.) experiment and see what works. Ue a circular polarizer to take sun glare off subject, and punch up the color.

The parking lot is small and it looks like we're having a big crowd. Farther south of the main parking is more parking. The walk isn't very far.

It is a tiny parking lot. Even though relatively local... car pooling might be helpful.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
