SONGWRITERS PERFORMING:

GILLI MOON: has led an extraordinary life which has resulted in 6 albums, 2 published books, magazine articles, TV features and performances with some of the biggest acts in the world. She has created her own record label, Warrior Girl Music and is the president of Songsalive!. She is now a mum of twin babies, 11 months old. http://www.gillimoon.comhttp://www.facebook.com/gillimoonmusic  Tweet @gillimoon

J.WALKER: is a spoken word artist who began his journey as a hip-hop lyricist. He has had his music played at the Staples Center, on 60 Minutes, on TNT and others. He has won numerous poetry slams throughout the country and has been asked to perform and teach his rhymes across the world. But there is nowhere he would rather be than right here, right now. http://www.jwalkerthepoet.com  Tweet @jwalkerthepoet

PATRICIA BAHIA: (pronounced ba-HEE-yah) is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and ovarian cancer survivor combines elements of pop, singer-songwriter, with hints of country and soul, to create sparkling gems of piano-based pop songs. Patricia started her career as a soloist with the acclaimed Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir--recording with Linda Ronstadt, performing with Joan Baez, and opening for Bonnie Raitt. Patricia discovered her “bucket list” desire to write songs during a successful battle with ovarian cancer ten years ago. Now healed, Patricia is on a mission to spread love, healing, joy and peace through the power of words and music--and to inspire others to follow their dreams and live artistically. www.reverbnation.com/patriciabahia  Tweet@patriciabahia

DHARMIKA: came down to LA from Oregon a year ago and has been singing around the San Fernando Valley for the last year. She sings heartfelt songs that touch, empower, and connect with the audience. Her strong voice and visual lyrics will bring you on a journey to familiar places from misty dreams. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpxhQdjxbtB93hYQHnPwQig

DEBBIE OPP: likes to perform a music memoir of six songs about her life. It is like an arc or story line that takes people through different periods. She was trained as a graphic artist but started a horse farm called Irish Rose Farms instead. Debbie does singing, songwriting, and drawing as creative outlet to balance the continuously hard work of working with horses which she has done most of her life. When she was younger she had a musical background in classical piano. The piano is what she plays now. http://www.facebook.com/12debbieopp

JIMI YAMAGISHI: runs SongNet, writes stuff, plays fixes & builds guitars, sings, cooks, works on cars, sometimes successfully, tries to live life off the corporate grid, washes dishes, takes out the garbage, cleans the litter box & generally lives by the grace of God. If ya wanna know more, go talk to him. He doesn't bite & is not contagious. Yet. http://www.jimiyamagishi.com

It was an emotionally charged night as we honored our late songwriter friend D.Whitney Quinn. Performances were a high with Patricia Bahia, Dharmika, Debbie Opp, J.Walker, gilli moon, and Jimi Yamagishi. Special appearances from songwriters who sang in tribute to Whitney in the open mic section was a lovely feeling, especially Craig Harris, who wrote more than 30 songs with Whitney and sand a touching co-write. Tom Bishel also gave us his sensitive rendition of a Neil Finn song, plus we enjoyed newcomer Katie Scarlett, backed by Grammy award songwriter and Songsalive! patron, Alan Roy Scott. Paul McCarty also sang a lovely Whitney song too. Lovely night, lovely venue, lovely and touching showcase. Thanks to Songnet for collaborating with Songsalive! once again. See you all next month as we move to the 3rd Sundays of month: mark your calendars for Sun June 15.
