Networking and Song Circle Jam

Networking and Song Circle Jam

Hey Musicians, Songwriters & Music Lovers-

We had a good thing going at the April Meetup, so let's do it again in May! We look forward to meeting our new members, catching up on what's been happening with our current members and then have an opportunity to perform some tunes solo or have others join the jam. ATTENTION: The meeting location has been changed to the Nisqually Bar and Grill, 10323 Martin Way, East Olympia - exit 114 off of I-5.

Bring your instrument and  friends if you like. BTW, Nisqually Bar and Grill has great hot food, family atmosphere, and full bar, so you may want to save your appetite. Larry Luvaul will be hosting!

Let's try to make it a full house!

SONG CIRCLES are a traditional, relaxed way to share time, fun, and art, with the community. Acoustic instruments of all kinds are welcomed, but not necessary if you simply love to sing. No one dominates, but anyone may lead the group in song or entertain when it is their turn; each member gets only one turn per round. Members may enter or leave the circle as they wish, but it is understood that  at all times within and without the circle, no one is to be rude or  disruptive, and to that end audience participation is discouraged.

We pick a spot and arrange chairs in a large circle. We choose a person to start, and that person has three options to choose from for their turn in the round:

1.    PLAY: Play or sing a song for the group or play an instrumental.  You may also invite other members to play or jam along with you...or not.  Your choice. All musical styles are encouraged but watch the profanity when children are in the audience.

2.     CHOOSE: Choose a song you'd like to hear or have the group sing.

3.     PASS: For members who choose not to sing or play and those members  that may be shy or tend to blank out under pressure.

I really hope to make it out, depends on work. Does anyone object to me bringing a few drums? I play brushes and light percussion.

Hey Gary, a few drums would be a welcomed addition. Hope you can make it.

Hi Larry: Just sent you an email when I realized there may be one more suitable place. Louie G's in Fife. It is a Pizza Parlor that has live music on the weekends and it even has a stage area. I don't think they do music through the week so they may welcome the group. Might be worth checking out.

Hi Larry: There is a Forza Coffee in University Place that might be open to the event. An even better spot would be the Tullys Coffee downtown Tacoma. It has a long room with a lounge area at one end that would work great. Before it was a Tullys it was a privately owned coffee shop that had live music on a regular basis. The Tacoma location would draw from Tacoma, Puyallup, Auburn and maybe even Kent. I would be glad to help get the word out if you do find a location. Good Luck!

The April meetup was awesome---Loved the fact that Larry and Damien had original songs and played at such an enjoyable sound level. A young girl showed up with her Dad and I asked her to go get her Violin----she did and she and her Dad sang and played together making it a very special night. Thanks Kristianna! So you see, you never know who might show up----come out even if you don't play or sing---such a memorable evening. Loved it! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!
