Glad to have been a part of this. Got some great shots of the skyline. I'll try to do some editing of the video in the not too distant future.

Great photos Sam! Had a great time. Turns out my GPS problems were most likely the major solar flares that we've been getting. A lot of 350qx users were having problems...time to mount mine on top.

Thanks. I had a great time as well. It was good to have the opportunity to learn more about flying drones and observing techniques. Solar flares - who would have guessed that.

Looks a bit overcast but I'm going to give it a try. Hope to see you all out there.

I'll be joining the fun...looking forward to it!

We'll be flying at Discovery Green in Downtown Houston from 1-3 PM. This assumes we can do so safely, and while following our guidelines and those of the AMA (http://www.stdug.org/docs/). TL;DR if there are too many people, and we can't stay a safe distance, we will decide on an alternate location.

  • Michael E.

I'll be at TX/RX around 11:30 AM, then Discovery Green at 1:00.

    February 11, 2014

  • Michael S.

I'm up to meeting at TX/RX but I'll have to pass on breakfast.

    February 10, 2014

  • Adrian

Breakfast is a good idea. I'm in. Maybe we can even steal some people while we are at it.

I contacted the air museum www.1940airterminal.org about getting a large conference room (or even the hanger if enough people come) but have no response so far, but seems the perfect spot if it's reasonably priced.

Going to grab breakfast at TX/RX before heading over to Discovery Green if anyone is interested.

Let's give Discovery Green a try. I'm still working on a good location for the micro olympics.

Not going to be able to make this one. I have a class at TX/RX Sunday afternoon.

I'm open to flying anywhere. I like the idea of exploring new venues.

A few weeks ago, Brad Luyster of the LVL1 Makerspace in Louisville, KY told me of a quadcopter competition they held in December: Quadcopter Ultimate Aerial Combat Competition (QUACC). Might be kinda fun in addition to quad olympics. Here's a link to the event: http://www.lvl1.org/2013/12/01/are-you-ready-to-quacc/

Central location is ok. The Discovery green sounds good.

  • Michael E.

A couple other ideas we are considering are:
    1) Discovery Green downtown for some great shots of the downtown skyline
    2) Michael suggested doing a nano quad "olympics"

1)Well, there is the other Memorial park by 10 and 610. Closer to down town.
2)There's also George Bush Park, further out but much larger and more interesting things in the park itself. Maybe near the rifle range.
3)Lastly, university campuses when empty often have interesting spaces to explore. Rice and TSU are large open space campuses.

I removed Memorial Park, lets see some suggestions.

This is currently set for Memorial Park in Sugarland, but I would like to try out some new locations. Anyone have some ideas?

    Hi Michael,

I'm exited to go fly with you if I can make it. There's a baby shower that's not well scheduled at this point. I'll definitely push for going to the park early if I can. I'll reply when I can get a definite tine out of them.

    Thanks,
    Adrian
