Spirit in the City - The Adventure of Self Discovery

Dear friends,

At the next Spirit in the City entitled ‘The Adventure of Self Discovery” we will be delving deep into the different tools we have to explore the depths of who we are. The evening will be hosted by Martin Duffy and as always will begin with a drumming journey.

About the Talk
The inner journey is the most important trip that we will ever take from birth to death. Many wise ones have said that "to know thyself" is the ultimate goal of our lives. Jung called this process individuation and he stated that the goal of life was to bring our shadow into light, to make the unknown known.
At this meetup we will explore different methods of self-exploration and maps of consciousness.
Some of the topics we will discuss at this meetup are, Holotropic Breathwork, Jungian and Transpersonal Psychology, Shamanism, Grofs maps of Consciousness, How our Birth influences our personalities, Non Ordinary States of Consciousness, Dreamwork, Projection Mindfulness and how we Create our Own Reality, "what we hold within ourselves, we meet in life as fate" C.G. Jung.

About Martin
Martin is the director of the OakTree Charitable Trust, a nonprofit organisation that runs the Irish Centre for Shamanic Studies at Dunderry Park.
The Centre is dedicated to promoting and preserving shamanic traditions from around the world, particularly those of the pre-Celtic and Celtic era. Contemporary Transpersonal approaches are also taught at the centre. Martin has worked as a mental health care professional since 1977. He is an accredited transpersonal /Jungian psychotherapist. He has trained in various forms of consciousness raising methods including Holotropic Breathwork ™, Dreamwork, Trance dancing and Firewalking.

He has done fieldwork with indigenous Shamans from Mongolia, Mexico, the Amazon, Andes, and Africa and also has trained in core Shamanism with the Foundation of Shamanic Studies (U.S.A.) and the Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies.
He has strong values with regards integrity, honesty and openness, in particular he believes in empowering the individual to find healing, knowledge and wisdom within themselves.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you for last evening event Martin, I felt you talk about me as I walked this path along from the age 14. Now after more than 20 years and lots of spiritual experience I arrived to the right place at right time meeting with people who are alike and share can talk our own positive experiences. Make me feel good. Also good to know we have oportunity to meet and listen a good teacher locally and not need to travel huge distances. I like your drumming at the begining, it is really works for me! Now, for sure I will invite many of my friends to share this meetings.

    Thank you,
    Peter

Great Talk last night, personally I came away with a deeper understanding of myself. I felt a strong sense of community and a collective acceptance of our individual responsibility to work on our own shadow.

'Sweet as a nut'! Martin's presentation of the broader and deeper understanding of 'the human predicament', states of 'non-ordinary consciousness' and Stan Groff's work, was nothing short of mesmerising and..... breath-taking! (pun intended He! He!).

Martin has such a grounded approach and 'down to earth' attitude, that he can put a practical handle on the most esoteric studies. Thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and hugely informative!

After the 'tea and cake break', in the second part of the evening; 'questions, answers and discussion', I was also greatly impressed with the level of learned comments and discussion from the group, a true pleasure which gave a wonderful sense of being 'at home' and, speaking personally, a feeling of 'family' or 'tribe' or simply being 'part of'.
Also a sense of humility, at there being such a comfortable and supportive 'space' within which to acknowledge and embrace such profound and introspective questions as 'who am I'.

    Thanks!
    David.....

Yes we all have a responsibility to address the negatives then nurture the positives of higher love which has no opposite methinks.
