SOUL SEMINARS : The Frozen Present: Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Trauma

Dear friends,

We are delighted to be hosting Professor Ivor Browne at the next Soul Seminars. Professor Browne will be talking about Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Trauma - this is sure to be enlightening and thought provoking evening and we look forward to seeing you there.

About the Night

Prof. Ivor Brown has over sixty years’ experience working in the field of mental health. After his initial studies at the Royal College of Surgeons he worked in Oxford, London, Harvard and Dublin and went on to become Professor of Psychiatry at University College, Dublin and Chief Psychiatrist of the Eastern Health Board. He took the care of mental patients away from large institutions and brought it into the community.

At this Soul Seminar Prof. Browne will discuss the nature of trauma, and examine at the uneasy alliance that exists between psychiatry and psychotherapy. Drawing on his unrivaled experience as a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist, Prof. Browne will illustrate the evolution of current psychiatric and psychotherapeutic models, and explore the benefits and drawbacks of these approaches for working through trauma.

This Soul Seminars takes place at The Lantern Centre, 17 Synge Street, Dublin 8 and as always we will start with a meditation, break for tea/biscuits at 9 and end with a discussion group and Q&A.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Martin Duffy

Hi Martin I am extremely interested in this talk as my particular interest is working to heal trauma from a body and energy perspective. I have a class to attend on Thursdsy and to my dismay it means I will miss this talk. Will there be any slides or information I can glean in any way from the talk. Even a point in the right direction to further reading recommended by the talker would be of help. Thanks Martin.
