Better Photography Through Tough Love

There are two sides to photography, technical and artistic. This class concentrates on the artistic side, giving and honing skills to help you elevate the quality of your image content. This is not your mother's photography class. If you have a fragile or inflated ego this is not the class for you. But if you can be honest with yourself and truly want to grow as a photographer this will set you on the right path.

The class is made up of 3 sessions (every other week) and will involve mandatory homework (including some shooting).

Class dates (must attend all 3)
Thurs 7/25, 8/8, 8/22

Cost $65

For a first of the 3, I really enjoyed it. Very informative, made me really think about what I'm doing. Made realized that the question of the night "Shoot what you love" is more perplexing to me then I thought it would be. I found out that I'm a "Formula Shooter", Yes I like the 25 or so fixed shots that I do. I guess it's my comfort zone that I'm more of a[masked] tech head when it comes to my shooting. I found myself questioning what am I really doing now with everything. I figure I'm going to shoot wild animals, I really enjoy the lay and wait to happen watching for the shot to appear to me. My other top passions are Macro, and Panoramic, but I don't see how I could apply that to this assignment. This will be very interesting to see what is said about my ability to freely work on my own without a set of numbers to follow in a formula.

I guess I park on the street out front, right? Parking?

plenty of free on street parking... if not in front of the building, on the side street next to it. Hit 300 and the bell button and we'll buzz you in

Ok another question then? I have friends that have no photo skills at all, and they can take a picture over and over that looks like it should hang in a Museum. My work is all high end technical photos with photo layers opening up DOF in shoots, Moving panos, medical and surgical rendering, restoration work. I can write a Firmware patch for Canon in 3 hrs., but I just don't have the ability to shoot the art like shot. - Will this class will get me started in the right direction???

    • Mark

Possibly... if you pm me a link to see some of your work, and tell why you're not happy with it, I can give a better answer. The class is designed to help people spot technical flaws, weak images (and why they're weak), help identify why some images work and some don't, and in general help (pardon the pun) focus the shooter's eye.

Is the fee of $65 for all 3 clases, or $65 each?

    July 4, 2013

    • Nick

thats an awesome price. can you tell me more about the work/class/homework? i want to do this.

      July 4, 2013

    • Mark

The class is about teaching you to actually see the image you're creating. The homework will involve one shoot of the shooters choice per session (need 35 or more images of the same subject/event) and editing photos.
