Chinese New Year Lion Dance Parade

Gong Hat Fat Choy! (bonus points to those who know what that means)

It's Chinese New Year, come photograph the Lion Dance Parade. Unlike other parades, you don't wait in one spot for this one to pass you by. Instead, you walk with it as they cover all of Chinatown. You'll get images of the Lions/Dragons dancing in the streets, fire crackers going off, a martial arts demonstration, and lots of interesting faces in the crowd.

I strongly suggest taking the speedline (get off at 8th and market, then walk up to Chinatown).

We'll meet shortly before the parade starts, by the Arch at 10th and Arch. The parade is scheduled to start at 11am just down the street at 10th and Spring. If you get there late, just listen for the firecrackers and you'll find the parade.

Afterwards, I'm sure some of us will go for Chinese food.

Really cool video. Would have liked to have seen cuts to crowd reactions in between the action. Nice job.

Photo chasing during the parade was so fun! The weather was great - couldn't have asked for a better day.

I really enjoyed the parade, it was definitely something different! Many thanks to the member who shared ear plugs—they are a must-have for next time... and yes, I will be back. Nice friendly group.

Such a nice day and ear protection did help, when I remembered to use them. What a great turnout for this event, so many came and then were lost in the crowd. Sorry I did not get to be with most of you longer. All in all another fine meetup and now to go through what I got. Yikes, over 800 pics today. Time to make room on my hard drive.

I smell like gunpowder, have a hearing loss, and may have something like Black Lung. Otherwise, it was kind of nice! Yes, crowded. I'm tall so may have gotten a few nice shots over the heads and cameras. Would do it again! Was good to see everyone else so hope I don't look too much like Warren The Ape.

I miss the 10a train. Getting on the next one. Is there a central mtg pt or everyone doing their own thing?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
