Happy 2012 Everyone! We're already on the 15th incarnation of the Torrance ride :)

UPDATE: Yes, I know it's Superbowl Sunday, ride will be over by noon, kickoff isn't until 3:20. Plenty of time for fun!

We'll meet at the rear parking lot of Wilson Park in Torrance at 10 and ride at 10:15. We really need to leave for our ride on time this Sunday. We will take a short ride through Torrance neighborhoods to historic Old Town Torrance a little known corner of the city that is easily explorable on a bike. We can ride in this area and check out its many little shops, masonry buildings from the founding of the city, and lovely old residential neighborhoods in the surrounding area. We will even make a quick stop at the drive-in Foster's Freeze for some ice cream! This is a great ride to bring your family on, there is little traffic at this hour and we cross few main streets.

After the ride everyone is welcome to take a free ride on the California Live Steamers Miniature Railroad near where we meet until 3pm. They will also have story time from 1 - 2 pm for younglings :)

If you are coming from Crenshaw Bl, turn onto Jefferson Street and head ALL THE WAY BACK past the gym, skate park, hockey rink, and tennis courts, the lane will turn to the right and there will be one last little lot with eucalyptus trees alongside some basketball courts. If you come from Sepulveda you can turn onto to Arlington Avenue heading north and then left on Washington Avenue, the parking lot will be at the end of Washington.

RSVP note: If you are unsure if you can attend this ride please do not RSVP "YES" and comment "maybe", instead wait until you have a better idea if you can attend or not to RSVP. We try to leave for our rides on time and I cannot keep a large group waiting for 1 or 2 people. I recommend everyone to study THIS MAP of the route so if you run late you can try to catch up with the group in Old Torrance

Me too! But we did a ride on Superbowl Sunday two years ago as well and everything turned out great! Remember, ride is typically done by noon and kickoff is at 3:20pm.

I road to Temescal Canyon this morning. I felt no pain after 30 minutes. I've decided to ride with you all! Doctor says he wants me riding as hard as I can; before surgery, to improve recovery time.

Great ride through a nice part of Torrance. It was fun biking in a big group. We were a hit wherever we went. Old Torrance has a lot of great character and the streets had very little traffic. The time of day worked out perfect for us.

Getting to know your community is as easy as riding a bike.

The Southbay Cruisers Community Bicycle Group is all about cruisin' the beach cities of Los Angeles,CA. (Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, and Torrance) We use community bike rides to get to know the people in our neighborhood, get some exercise, & have some fun too. We ride through streets at an easy to moderate pace through mostly flat terrain as we view ocean scenery and listen to music from our bike stereos. We cover about 9 - 10 miles in one night to accomodate beginners. Our rides are a moving, alcohol & drug free, party. We host different themed nights.

WE ARE NOT A "PUB CRAWL" OR A "BOOZE CRUISE". PLEASE DO NOT COME TO OUR RIDE WITH A SIX PACK HOPING TO GET DRUNK WHILE RIDING YOUR BIKE. WE DON'T DO THAT.

WHO SHOULD JOIN:
Anyone who can respect the communities that we ride through. If you are under 16 years of age, please bring a parent or guardian. See www.southbaycruisers.com for details. Also,you don't need a stereo on your bike to join us, any type of bicycle with a headlight will do. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

RULES OF SOUTHBAY CRUISERS RIDES:

We are fun chilled out community ride when people come and obey these rules:

*No alcohol or drug consumption on our rides.

*No littering or other illegal behavior.

*We take the RIGHT Lane so that cars can pass us on the left lane. We don't cork lanes...really for most of our rides there is no need to do that.

*Come prepared with a bicycle in good working order - with a white bicycle headlight, a rear red reflector, reflectors on your wheels, and a white reflector on the front of your bike if you are riding with us at night. California State Law requires this. (You can purchase a light at one of our rides if you want.)

*If under 18 years of age you must wear a helmet. It’s the law.

*If under 16 years of age you must bring a parent or guardian.

*Help your Southbay Cruisers out along the way. We don’t leave anyone behind, especially if they get hurt along the way or have a problem with their bikes. We all look out for each other. This ride is as much about community building as it is about riding your bike.

*No Attitudes...No exceptions

*RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK-We are not a touring company, nor do we have any special insurance or permits. We are just a group of people who rides the Southbay. We map out courses that minimize contact with automobiles and we all look out for each other on our rides, but that being said, we cannot guarantee anyone's safety.
