A Ride to Old Torrance-Sunday, January 4th, 2009
Meets at 10:00AM/Rides at 10:15AM
Meets at the rear parking lot at Wilson Park(2400 Jefferson Street, Torrance, CA 90501)

Ninja Cat Mary led a slow to moderate paced cruiser ride through Old Torrance last month ( see highlights of this ride at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtZD2F3f1oQ&feature=channel_page )It was a lot of fun. If you have been getting these emails and you are a little concerned about riding at night, check this ride out. It will start at Wilson Park, cruise through Old Torrance and end back at the park. We will likely stop at a another park along the way, dance, skip rope, or whatever comes to mind. Also on the agenda will likely be a trip to Fosters Freeze along the way.

If you have kids, this is a great ride to check out. There is almost no traffic running through Old Torrance on a Sunday morning. And after the ride is over we will likely take a free train ride around Wilson Park. This could become a regular first sunday of the month ride for 2009.

The Holiday Toy Ride II Ride Recap:
Cruisin' Through Torrance was awesome!

(You can see a Youtube video of this ride at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofvbJbzJOP0 Pics are posted on the homepage of www.southbaycruisers.com & in the photo section of meetup. If you took pics of this ride please post them to our meetup page. )

It was a clear cool night on December 20th, 2008 as approximately 30 Southbay Cruisers assembled for our cruiser ride to Carol Drive in Torrance, an area famous for it?s Chinese Elm Trees and festive Holiday decorations. We thought we might get rained on for this ride, but fortunately we were in for a dry crisp clear night of cruisin?.

With our jackets and scarves, we met at our usual spot in front of the Lighthouse Cafe at Hermosa Pier where Tina collected our Toys for the DCSF Adoption Center in Torrance (1327 Post Avenue , Suite K, Torrance CA 90501).

We saw some very festive bikes from many cruisers including Jolly & Jeff, Ninja Cat Mary, and Gin Master Jean. We saw quite a variety of holiday attire too including a surprise showing from Santa himself, or was it Tony? We will never be quite sure.

We were also joined by a number of families for this ride including the Velazquez family with there two kids, one of whom is one year old-our youngest cruiser yet. We were excited to see Jaylin and Kennedy join us again to with their parents.

We had some ?old school Southbay Cruisers? join us as well including Steve and David ?Electric Assisted? Dutra, all the way from Long Beach.

And we were even joined by a couple on their Tandem bike! We haven?t had too many tandem cruisers in quite some time.

After singing Happy Birthday to Ninja Cat Mary, and embarrassing her a bit, it was time to head out. With the soul cycle booming holiday tunes, and our bells and whistles ringing on our bikes, we made our way up the bike path, and eventually Hermosa Avenue and the Esplanade on our route to Carol Drive in Torrance.

Upon arriving Tony gained instant fame and attention as our ?Santa on a bike? cruised the neighborhoods. After admiring all the local decorations we stopped at the Southbay Spartan High School Wrestling booth selling hot chocolate and cookies to support their team. Ninja Cat Mary offered to take on the whole team right there on the spot in exchange for us getting free food, but in the holiday spirit we instead bought some hot chocolate and cookies from them.

Several people stopped us while we admired some of the houses while cruisin? on our bikes. ?Are you guys with the Midnight Riddazz?? ?Hey look it?s the bike brigade!? ?Rave party on wheels!...?

?No actually it?s just us cruisin? the neighborhood on our bikes. Come join us if you want.?

After our adventures on Carol Drive, we headed back to Hermosa and about a dozen of us made our way to Valley Park where we embarrassed Ninja Cat Mary some more singing Happy Birthday to her as we warmed up a bit over hot chocolate and a fire at Valley Park. Tito also led us in some Christmas and Chanukah songs into the wee hours of the night.

Thank you Tina, and Ninja Cat Mary for helping to make this, our last official ride of 2008 a successful one! Thank you also to Santa Tony for guiding our way!

That is all. Thank you to all for another great year of cruisin! Lookin' forward to 2009!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
