Social Bughouse Tournament

  • May 18, 2014 · 2:00 PM

I'm having a social bughouse (chess) tourney.
It is strictly for fun. No prizes, just bragging rights.

The tourney allows everyone to play a minimum # of games and with different people.

We'll go with the non-agro version of bug: no drops in enemy territory and 7 minutes per side. And no pawn drops on your back rank.

You don't need to bring a partner.
Each player will rotate through different partners and opponents (round-robin). Players from the winning team each earn a point. No draws.

It will be held in my backyard (there's shade). Location: Sunnyvale near Lawrence and El Camino.

Limit to 10 players (there are 4 already). If you're interested, please contact me or leave a comment.  Address will be then given.

I'm looking forward to the friendly competition.

Nevermind that (I'll delete that part). If you're interested, just try to let me know by Sunday AM so I can finalize out how to structure the tourney.

"Please register by Friday PM", in a message that was sent out on Friday at 2PM? That's cutting it close!

Just a couple things to note:
If you're not familiar with bughouse its just a 4 player version of chess (2v2) played on 2 boards. Fast and fun. All you really need to know is how the pieces move.
Also, don't let "tournament" scare you. This intended to be social setting. A tourney just adds structure to how player combinations will rotate throughout the afternoon.
The weather looks like it'll be glorious. A nice break from the heat! Fresh lemonade will be on hand.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
