Game Focus Night: Agricola

Game Focus Night

We choose a "main game" to be the focus for the evening.  Of course, you can play other games, too...but if we all plan for one particular game...and take some time to outlay the rules, etc...and show up ready to play...we can enjoy one of the "longer" games that are sometimes hard to commit to in the Extravaganza format.  We start a little later, we end a little earlier...bringing snacks and such are optional, but encouraged.  The essence of the evening is to relax and enjoy good company, good gaming, and good ambiance.

So....Let's Go!

The Main Game is:  Agricola

Never played it?  No Problem...We're here to Learn! Let's learn & play!
I have a Copy of this game, so we're all set!  Do I have a Zillion Expansions? No
You can check out an overview of the game here:
http://boardgamegeek.com

...feel free to read-up on the rules ahead of time, but we will review the rules before we start playing (Let's aim to start the game no later than 8PM!)

RSVP
If more people attend than can fit in to the "main game", you are welcome to play other games...bring what you like or make use of one of the games that I have.  I'll limit the Yes-RSVPs based on how many can play the main game....but if you are on the waiting list, feel free to attend anyway, but bring a plan to play another game.

Cost
If you are bringing a snack or a beverage to share or if you have already paid the Yearly $20 group fee, then the $5 cost of attending this event is Waived...$0 for you :-)

Despite ending up in the winning position, I still had fun...just sayin'....and, Matt, your ratcatcher would have fallen to my ace-up-my-sleeve Occupation, Tale-Swapper, which would allow me to take food from everyone if my turns ever exceeded 1 minute...and you *know* how often that happened!

True...I can't say enough about how my Wine Celler and my proclivity toward 'Shrooms enabled every other good thing in my life ;-)

See ... that's why you won ... you were busy inhaling wine and shrooms and I was busy being a Traveling Salesman and total clown (I mean, Harlequin...)

This was a fun night. I chose to keep many wrong cards based on my first round or two making the need for survival and taking over the good and animal population for fun. Since I didn't really figure out how to use my stuff dead last was my fate.
Yes everyone was silly and that made things more doable.

Despite not being able to play my Ratcatcher occupation, I had a lovely time. My opponents were delightful, Agricola is the greatest game ever created, and after 7:00 p.m., the traffic to Paul's house isn't so bad. My only regret is that we played only one game, instead of six...

I'm afraid something has come up and I can't make it. Hope to see you some other time

Everyone still on the waitlist...c'mon down! Since Matt is bringing a 2nd copy of the game, we can divide into 2 games (3 players / 4 players) and have us an Agricola-palooza :-)

I have a copy of Agricola if people would like to start a second game,

Yo, wait-listers! The attendance limit on this event is only relative to "the" Game ... if you want to come and play side-by-side, 'tis cool indeed!

Paul, I definitely plan on attending, and I hope other wait-listers do, too. But let's say I'm the only wait-lister attending and all five regulars showed up. Would you 5 play a game while I sat in a corner, sobbingly playing the dull solo game, or would we split into two 3-player games? Is this a loaded question?

      January 23, 2013

    • Paul++

It is a loaded question, but I think the answer is yes. I b'lieve that two 3/4-players games would be a superior way to spend the evening as compared to a 5-player game and a "leftovers" game

I can bring my Agricola game also, in case the waiting list magically swells to four more people ... also have Farmers expansion and all decks including Belgium...
