For true G.R.I.T.S (Girls Raised in the South), Southern roots run deep. If you’re looking to make true, lasting friendships with fun-loving women who may currently live in the Bay Area, but really hail from the Southern states, then you’ve found the right group!
Southern Comfort isn’t just something you sneak into the football game to spike your drink. It represents a bond - a connection to a unique heritage. It’s a love for family, friends, and food and an overall zest for life. It’s about appreciating your unique history and the bond you share with women just like you.
Who this group is for: So much of our Southern heritage revolves around family, friends, (possibly football)...and oh yes, food. But, if you’re new to San Francisco, your network of friends might be small or even non-existent. Or, maybe you’ve been here for a while but work and life left little time to make new friends. Let’s work together to change all that.
What we’re about: Southern Comfort aims to bring together fun women interested in establishing solid relationships by connecting with others who can laugh at and be proud of all the quirky things that come with being a Southern girl. Making friends is tough, but one good friend (or 10) means knowing you’ve got someone on your side who understands you and is there through thick and thin. You can’t have too many of those!
Possible Activities: Girl, in the South it’s about the food, so let’s just say most, if not every, meet up will revolve around that very thing. We can explore the city together, testing out new cuisines, or searching for the foods we know and love, like bar-b-que. Can someone point me in the direction of some decent sweet tea?
We can take in the local culture, host a good old-fashion potluck party, hit some local shops, pack a picnic and explore anything else that allows us to form some strong bonds so we can cheer each other on in life.
•In order to be considered for our group, please fill out the introduction section of the member page and upload a photo of yourself. This helps us all get to know each other a little more and makes it easier to recognize our GRITS girls when we have events.
•Sorry guys, women only. Southern gals or G.R.I.T.S. preferably, but we welcome all fun types.
•Only happy, fun, and funny gals -- check the pettiness, cattiness and overall drama at the door. In our group, "ya'll means all" - we welcome and support our LGBTQ sisters.
•Be interested in making new girlfriends and/or partners in crime for a lifetime. :-)
No truer words have ever been spoken: You are not going to like everyone you meet and not everyone's going to like you. There WILL BE people that will like you and that you'll want to hang out with. Some people simply connect better than others. It might be age, background, general interests, heck, it could even be their favorite football team. The point is to open yourself up to new friendships within the group and see where they take you.
Group engagement: As members you are invited to suggest ideas and activities or organize future meet ups. Feel free to do so through the site (just shoot me an email), or by getting in touch directly with the friends you make through our events. We’ll share hosting duties so everyone has a chance to join in the fun.
In general: Unless the venue is able to accommodate a large group comfortably, general meet ups will be a small group of girls – 10 maximum, possibly less, depending on the event – so that we can actually spend time getting to know one another. With each meet up, let’s try to go beyond general intros and really learn fun things about each other. For most restaurant outings, you will be required to bring cash so we can settle the bill with one credit card.
Our Southern Comfort friendship is only as strong as the engagement of the group. Once you join, you’ll be required to RSVP for EVERY single event (it doesn’t matter whether it is YES, NO or a MAYBE – RSVP is required). Repeated no shows, no RSVPs, or inactive members may be removed at the organizer’s discretion.
Why? It’s just good manners. It’s about being respectful of everyone’s time and interests and I want group of girls who subscribe to that same line of thinking.
Looking forward to some fun girlfriend time - Southern style!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
