The Montreal Spanish Language Meetup Group Pages

Hola y Bienvenido to The Montreal Spanish Language Meetup Group!!

You are studying or have studied the wonderful spanish language? Usted es hispanohablante y quiere ayudar otros a practicar su lengua? Perfecto!!!

If you want to have the chance to speak spanish in a nice and relaxed atmosphere, while hopefully meeting many spanish-speakers living in the Montreal area who want to share their culture with us, please join us!

Please be advised that ALL MEETUPS ARE IN SPANISH - this is the sole purpose of this group : to speak spanish.

This is NOT a class, nor a conversation "workshop", nor should it be taken as a way to learn the language from scratch - you MUST already have a very good knowledge of spanish to join this Meetup Group (intermediate and higher). We get together to exchange in spanish and have nice interesting conversations - we expect you to participate in the conversations - this is, after all, the main purpose of this group!

This Meetup group is open to adults living in the Montreal area (the events are mostly held in the downtown core or nearby, always near a Metro and very easily accessible) . I expect you to be able to participate in the Meetups - please join only if you can actually attend the meetings! This is not an internet exchange group - this is to meet in person!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT a "Dating Site" - PLEASE do not join if your sole purpose is to get a date! IF it so happens that people meet and start dating, that's OK, BUT DO NOT USE THE GROUP FOR THIS PURPOSE. The SOLE purpose of this group is to get together and speak spanish. Gracias.

Our "Regular Monthly Meetup" is held every 3rd Tuesday of the month - and due to popular demand an "Extra Monthly Meetup" has been added and will be held, on Tuesday as well, 2 weeks before or after the regular Meetup (depending on the month!). There are also various additional activities planned every month, check out the "Calendar" to find out all the details!

Also, check out the Message Board - and USE IT to give any suggestion you have. You can also post interesting links for us "spanish culture lovers"!!! This is yours to use - don't be shy!

If you have any questions about the site, or the events, or anything else about the Montreal Spanish Language Group, please feel free to e-mail me (the organizer) directly!!

N.B.: Membership to The Montreal Spanish Language Meetup Group is by approval only. IT IS NOT IMMEDIATE NOR AUTOMATIC. Some time after you put in your "request for Membership", you will receive an e-mail letting you know whether or not you are a member of the group. You may get a response quickly, but it may also take a while, it all depends on how quickly I can go through the applications. Thank you for your understanding. ***The information you provide when applying to be a member of the group is actually your profile - PLEASE MAKE SURE to tell us a bit about yourself: where you are from, whether you're a native spanish speaker or not, and if you're not, where you learned to speak and what your level is, etc. This information can be seen by everyone so NO PERSONAL INFO NOR PHONE NUMBER...Gracias.

The Montreal Spanish Language Meetup Group Rules

RSVP Rules

  • RSVP is an important tool to an Organizer, to let us know how many people will attend our events, especially if a reservation is required. It also helps us to know who to look out for - especially if you are new to the group!
  • You MUST RSVP in order to attend an event, you can not show up if you have not RSVP'ed.
  • PLEASE update your RSVP by the deadline, or as soon as you can. I often limit the number of attendees to the events, so RSVP early to "get a spot"!
  • I know that plans can change, so please change your RSVP to "NO" if you can not attend an event anymore! This will allow for others to sign up!!
  • If your RSVP "yes" for an event and do not show up for it, you are considered a "NO SHOW". After 3 or 4 "NO SHOWS" without reason (or message from you), I will e-mail you to let you know you will be removed the next time you are a "NO SHOW"

General Rules

  • Fill out your profile so we know a little more about you, please have a picture so we can recognize you!
  • You MUST live in the Montreal area to be a member
  • You MUST have a very good knowledge of spanish to be a member
  • In order to attend an event with the Montreal Spanish Language Meetup Group you MUST RSVP FOR IT
  • If you bring a guest, your guest MUST ALSO speak spanish; and you are responsible for your guest (if your guest does not show up, it is a "no show" for you!)
  • NO CHILDREN ALLOWED... this is not a group for "Family Activities"

"Inactive Members"

When you do not visit the group's website for 3 months and more, Meetup considers you an "inactive member" (you must sign in when you check out the site in order not to become "inactive").

Since the main purpose of this group is to get together to speak spanish, and that I try to organize many events to give as many opportunities as possible for people to participate, I expect members to be "active".

Once you have been inactive for 3 months or more, I will send a "warning e-mail": a reminder to check out what's going on with the group, and to give you a chance to reconsider your membership. You will have the opportunity to remove yourself from the group if you so decide.

This e-mail will also state that unless you become an active member again (you do NOT have to attend ALL the events, but at least show some interest, check out the site and attend SOME events), I will remove you from the group by the end of the month. I usually give you plenty of time to reconsider!

I want to make this group as active as possible - so I need all members to be "active"!!! Muchas gracias!
