Dear New Orleans Residents,

It is with great excitement that I inform you that the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), has provided New Orleans the needed tools to inaugurate the first UNA-USA chapter in the State of Louisiana. Please allow me to briefly convey to you the mission of our United Nations Association of the United States of America, New Orleans chapter (UNA-USA, NOLA).

UNA-USA is a network of people who work for a world in which humanity is spared the scourge of war, human rights are honored, the natural environment is protected, and the United States is a constructive member of the United Nations. The solutions proposed by world governments to many global problems are inadequate. To improve this trend of inadequacy, UNA-USA, NOLA works to fulfill a vision in the active creation of strong links between the New Orleans community, our elected officials, and the United Nations by the effective implementation of research, education, advocacy, the arts and policy programs. The vital need to support, teach, educate, and advance the thinking of future generations in order to train and enhance them into solving multinational, national and global perils, is our mission. For this reason, it is critical for us to design programs that will train a new generation of thinking leaders, writers and researchers that extend beyond borders.

New Orleans is a place of enchantment. It is a place where resiliency, dedication and fraternity has shown the world and the nation that any hardships can be overcome and success is accomplished by working together. It is time for New Orleans to reclaim its greatness as a city of enlightenment, innovation, research and education. UNA-USA, NOLA through its programs and partnerships will work towards making this a reality. This is why I am extending this open invitation for you to join UNA-USA, NOLA and become part of the movement that is making New Orleans a national and worldwide icon of innovation.

In terms of how to get started, you can join UNA-USA via the web at UNA-USA is updating the system to incorporate UNA-USA, NOLA. For the time being, members will simply join the "national at large" category until the chapter is incorporated to the system of our New York City headquarters, thereafter, your membership* will be transferred to our New Orleans chapter!

If you know of anyone interested in joining UNA-USA, NOLA, please forward this information to them, if you have any questions, or would like to receive detailed information about the benefits that are part of your new membership, please do not hesitate to contact me at [address removed].

Our regular Weekly Discussion in Spanish on Tuesday, October 19,[masked]:00 PM has been cancelled.

But, instead on the SAME DAY AND TIME we are going to meet for tapas and wine at Barcelona Tapas Cafe, at 720 Dublin St. in the Riverbend area (not too far from Camellia Grill.) The phone number there is [masked]-9696.

This is what Gambit had to say: "Choose from 50 tapas, paella or a small selection of entrees at this casual cafe. For a tapa, the pork tenderloin canoe features a slice of tenderloin, roasted pepper and melted Gouda on French baguette. Cold tapas include ceviche, aged Serrano ham and cheese plates. No reservations. Dinner Tue.-Sun. Cash only." And apparently they have a killer Sangria!

Hope to see you all then.
