June 25, 2012 Costa Rica Itinerary and Pricing

Hello all:

I am sending information on the Costa Rica Itinerary and Pricing.  (There are two attachments).

This trip is intended as an Educational Tour, falling under ecotourism for the variety of nature that we will be exposed to.  There will be an educational tour guide with us throughout.  It is not intended as a language study or homestay type program.  In Costa Rica, we will see the Tortugero National Park, the Arenal Volcano area, Monteverde Cloud Forest, and Jaco Beach.  All transportation and park entrance fees are covered under the package price.  Additionally breakfast and dinners are included.  At the end of this email I have listed a sampling of the hotel types we will be using.

We do need to have at least 4 participants in order to get this pricing. I am a member of the Ohio Foreign Language Association and have checked with teachers who have done educational tours abroad (such as this).  There is great feedback relating to this organization.  In comparison to other companies, their hotel accommodations and food provided are considered of a better quality.  There will be a tour guide with us from the moment we get to the airport to the time we leave.

As far as pricing, I have tried to find out if there are any hidden costs or surprises:
  • The pricing is based upon 3 people in a room.  If you want to just have 2 to a room, or get your own room, there is an extra charge. ($40 per person per night)
  • Also, the travel insurance is an additional $149 to the price that is listed.  It is optional to purchase this, but they do recommend it.
  • The price listed is based on having made the initial $495 deposit postmarked by October 15, 2011.  If you make the initial deposit after that point, the price will go up to reflect 2012 pricing.
  • You are given the option to make the initial deposit online with credit card; however, there is a $25 surcharge to use credit card.  (Bringing the initial deposit/registration/enrollment cost to $520).  Basically, the best way to make the initial deposit enrollment is through mailing a check (and the rate stays at $495).
  • Lunch is not included; so you would have to budget some additional money for lunch/snacks along the way.
  • Airline baggage costs are not included (as the actual airline is not yet determined).
