Join us for a unique opportunity to participate in the making of an Alfombra de Aserrin (Sawdust Carpet). This event will be led by a wonderful community artist from Leon, Nicaragua, Marlon Moreno. Marlon is the Director of the Taller Xuchialt which is a community art school in the Sutiava barrio of Leon. The event will take place in the large hall at St John's Church at 2640 St Paul Street. It is FREE and open to the public and you do not have to be a member of Spanish Meetup to attend.
Marlon will conduct the workshop in Spanish so it is a great opportunity for you to practice and improve your Spanish. Wine and Beer will be sold for $2.
These works of art are typically made in the streets of Leon during the celebration of Semana Santa (Holy Week) by artists and citizens of the city. They are made elsewhere in Central America as well but are most famous (I think) as coming from Leon.
Please RSVP for this Meetup if you are a Spanish Meetup member so we can make sure we save space for you. This event will also be open to the public.
