I just started learning Spanish a few months ago and consider myself un principiante. I know a bit, but need to converse as often as possible to put what little knowledge I have into practice. That in turn will hopefully build more confidence leading to even more conversations, and so on and so on. As far a language goes, I currently consider myself a bit shy (whereas in other parts of my life I'm very expressive) and getting together with others in this Meet Up will hopefully break that barrier.
I've been tapping into various resources on the internet, books and CDs, trying to find what fits my learning style. I just completed 16 weeks of a conversational class (one 1.5 hour session per week) and though I found the instructor competent, it just wasn't enough; I need more conversation i.e. "face time" and practice. I'm in the process of creating a daily study plan and thought that a casual conversational group would be a key element. I'm also in the process of looking for another class and interested in the suggestions of members of the meet up.
Soy originario de Nueva York, ahora DC
I'm looking forward to this group to give my fledgling understanding of Spanish opportunity to flourish. I work as a community organizer & want to reach people in the Latino community. I also want to open the door to a multifaceted culture.
