The Walk Route has been determined. We will meet at 7:30 in Lafayette Park (near the statue) which is in front of The White House. We will then walk to the Washington Monument and then down the mall to the Capital. There are decorations at The White House, Washington Monument, and the Christmas Tree is located in front of the Capital. Hopefully we will find other decorations as we walk along the mall.
After visiting the Capital building, we will walk to La Tasca in Chinatown for some drinks. I will call and let them know we are coming so there are no problems. I do not expect a location change, but if there is one I will let you know. On Fridays, there is a live band. My suggestion would be that we order from the bar, and therefore do not need to have a large table or worry about splitting checks.
I expect the walk to take about an hour and a half. We will arrive at La Tasca around 9:15 pm. (hopefully).
See you all on Friday, December 11th! My phone number is[masked] if anyone has problems finding us in Lafayette Park. Please arrive on time.
It's nearly December and I imagine the mall grounds are in the process of being decorated and lit up for the holiday season.
At 7:30 P.M. on December 11, 2009 we will meet in the center of Lafayette Park (near the statue). We will begin our tour checking out the decorations at the White House and walk towards the DC Mall. We will be sure to view the National Christmas Tree, some of the museums, the People's Christmas tree (at the U.S. Capital), and the Washington Monument. If there is any other nearby place that also has holiday decorations, write a comment below and we will try to incorporate it into the route.
This walk will be between 2.5-3 miles so wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately. It is December, so dress warm! Afterward we can go together to a nearby restaurant for some warm drinks, snacks, and more holiday cheer. (Again, suggestions of venues near the mall are welcome).
Exact walk route and after-walk location announcements will be made as locations are determined.
In case of rain or ice, this event will be cancelled. The walk will still take place in case of snow.
