Volunteer Spanish-English Interpreters and Organizers needed to support DC civic engagement project

In order to include Spanish-speaking community members in public community meetings, the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), a non-profit based in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington DC, is looking for a cadre of experienced, well-qualified interpreters to volunteer for up to 6 two-hour meetings per month through 2009. Native Spanish-speakers are preferred.

CARECEN also seeks volunteer organizers to participate in general outreach activities, including door-knocking, flyer distribution and phone banking, to raise awareness about upcoming community events and to promote increased civic engagement among Latinos at the neighborhood level in DC. Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Interviews are being conducted this Saturday, January 31st at 2 PM. RSVP is required; please contact Adrian Althoff at 301-801-6150 or adrian_althoff@yahoo.com
