How To Tell A Kick-Butt Story In 5 Minutes

Let me ask you a few questions...

  • Have you ever wanted to get up and tell a story from your own life, but you're not sure how to get started?
  • Do you want to improve your ability to engage an audience and impact them?
  • Do you have some life experience and wisdom to share with others, and you'd like a place to learn how to do that as well as a platform to practice doing it?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you're going to love our next meetup.  I'm bringing in Norah Dooley and Nicolette from MassMouth - the largest storytelling organization in Boston - to lead a special workshop for us.  In this fun, interactive event, you'll stretch yourself as you learn how to craft a kick butt 5-minute personal story from scratch.

It's a lot easier and faster than you think, especially when you have an easy-to-follow formula for story creation (which the teachers will provide for you). Believe it or not, you'll have your story completely done in a matter of minutes.

You'll get to practice several variations of your story throughout the class with a partner, and then at the end you'll be able to share your story with the group.

Plus, in order to help you improve as fast as possible, I will record your speech with a high-quality camera and microphone so you can review it at home. You can take this video and post it on Youtube, Facebook, discussion forums, put it on DVD and send it to your family and friends... whatever you want. It's a great way to share your story with others, and it helps others get to know you. Plus, you can show the video to other more experienced speakers and storytellers and get some extremely valuable feedback if you want.

Regardless of whether you do anything with your video or not, this is a fun and engaging event that will transform you into a much better speaker and storyteller in just two short hours. Not only will you walk away with a video of your story, but you'll also walk away with more confidence and skill in front of an audience, and that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED
*************************************************

This event is going to be at my home in Lower Allston, right near Harvard Stadium. It's very easy to get to both by car and public transportation. Directions will be emailed to you. We will start the event promptly at 7:00 and run until 9:00. Please plan on arriving by 6:45pm so you have time to settle in and meet the other guests. You never know who you'll meet that can become a new friend and add a lot of value to your life.

The event is limited to the first 7 people (including me) due to the size limitations of my home. if you'd like to join us, then here's what I recommend:

#1 - Check your calendar right now, and see if you have Wednesday June 22nd available.

#2 - If you have that evening free, go ahead and RSVP for this event right now. Trust me, it's going to fill up fast.

#3 - Write it in your calendar so you remember to attend, and please arrive by 6:45pm for registration and personal networking.

We will start promptly at 7:00pm. The cost of the event is only $30, which is a bargain for the quality of training that you'll be getting. Think about it... what else do you spend $30 that makes no difference in your ability to speak whatsoever? I promise that this will be well worth your time.

Plus, keep in mind that I'm going to be using semi-professional equipment to record your speech, so that alone is worth way more than the small investment. You're going to receive a very high-quality video of your speech, and that will help you improve very rapidly.  Plus, it's just fun to share the end result with others (if you want).

Please remember to bring:

  • $30 cash
  • A pen
  • A great attitude
  • And a willingness to learn fun, new things.

I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Warmly,

Jason

P.S. - Take down my cell number in case you have any questions about the event or if you get lost. My place is extremely easy to find, so you should have no problems, but just in case, my cell is:[masked]

Thanks for coming out, everyone. I thought Andrea and Nicolette did a fantastic job of teaching us how to tell a story. The workshop was fast paced and fun. I look forward to continuing to sharpen my skills in this area.

As usual, great meetup, great group of people, and a super exercise in thinking (and speaking) on one's feet! This meetup focused more on putting in the sounds, smells, and details that help the audience to "pick up on what you're throwing down." And the 5-minute presentation didn't hurt a bit! Highly recommended.

Great evening! Thoughtful structure that was easy to follow and clearly worked. Two caring facilitators and Jason was a great host. Really liked the "appreciation" and supportive way in which feedback was given.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
