Summit Bike: Bow Wow Beach - Brandywine Falls - Bow Wow Beach - 18 Miles

Ride Name: Cycling the Ghosts of the ABC Railroad|
Trail: Summit Bike: Bow Wow Beach - Brandywine Falls - Bow Wow Beach
Rating: Intermediate
Ride Type: Out and Back
Distance: 18.0 miles roundtrip

Your ride heads northwest along the course of the old Akron, Bedford & Cleveland (ABC) Railroad through northern Summit County. Pedaling out of the Bow Wow Beach parking lot in Silver Springs Park, you head northwest on the Summit Bike and Hike crossing under Darrow Road. Skirting suburban Hudson, the shady trail passes along housing developments and natural areas. You climb to cross Route 8 and pass under Route 303.

You continue through beautiful ledges as the trail skirts the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Crossing over the Ohio Turnpike, you reach Brandywine Road where the trail turns left and heads downhill to Brandywine Falls. You take the obligatory stroll along the fall’s walkways before heading back to your bike and return to Bow Wow Beach enjoying the scenery from the trail.

Out and back rides are designed with the intermediate and advanced cyclist in mind. These rides cycle out of a trailhead to a set destination, typically 8-10 miles away. After a break, the riders cycle back to the departure trailhead.

Tonight’s ride travels at 10-12 mph and typically takes 2 hours including photo-ops and rest stops. The ride is rated for leisure cyclists who enjoy cycling 10-12 mph on flat trails with an occasional hill or elevation gain. The trail surface is mixed with areas of both asphalt and packed limestone. It is relatively flat with some moderate elevation changes. The ride should be a comfortable ride for the intermediate cyclist.

This ride is on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists . We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.
